I have been working at Liberty Mutual Insurance full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

This company is a great place to work. The salary and benefits are untouchable within the industry. There are so many areas within the company to grow and move.

    Cons

Depending on where you are in the company, layoffs can tend to be frequent.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Stick to the basics

    Pros

Lots of opportunity. I am really impressed by the training and the company's support in helping you further your education. There are a lot of very knowledgeable people who work here who provide mentorship. Stay positive.

    Cons

This is not a 9-5 when starting out. Some people think it is. You can make it that way if you want, but you aren't going to get very far. You get out what you put in.

I worked at Liberty Mutual Insurance full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Well managed, stable company with many opportunities to grow and increase skills. Very competitive salary and compensation package with incentive awards. Many, many great people in all parts of the organization who are willing to collaborate to meet objectives.

    Cons

Limited opportunities for advancement if you are not in the "right" location or unable to relocate, resulting in the loss of loyal employees with strong skills and experience.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take the time to really listen to your employees, especially those with a number of years of service. While the Employee Opinion survey is a good attempt, little of the feedback is really acted upon, long term.

I have been working at Liberty Mutual Insurance full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The culture has been slowly changing and it is going in the right direction. Lots of growth opportunities, development resources available, and competitive pay.

    Cons

Albeit positive from a company health perspective- lots of restructuring but they are making the right decisions to stick around long term.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to enhance talent management capabilities- we are heading in the right direction. I am disappointed on how slow the diversity and inclusion initiatives are going- we are missing out on a lot of opportunities to create a more inclusive work environment and for employees to do their best work.

I have been working at Liberty Mutual Insurance full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

For IT, the pay is very competitive for the location we work in, without a commute into the big city.

    Cons

The culture is just now beginning to change to one that can be flexible and scalable quickly. For many years, there have been too many silos of groups doing their own thing without looking at the bigger picture, the bigger prize, the smarter way to operate.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

As a benefit to employees, you should offer us enough of a discount to keep our personal insurance business. Many employees don't have Liberty insurance because we get charged over a thousand dollars more per year than other top insurance companies. I like where I work, but come on, cut us some slack, we are why you are successful.

Continue looking at growing the business by supporting standardization of work across groups, get your rates down a little bit so we can increase volume of business to help fuel growth.
