I worked at Life Technologies as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

working at life tech makes you "feel good" because you're working for a good cause and the people working there are all good since they also chose to work for the benefit of everyone in healthcare.. so i enjoyed working with the people.

    Cons

internship wasn't very structured so I ended up wasting time and not learning a lot.. I also thought that the job description didn't match the internship at all so that was disappointing. I wish it was more structured and more than one intern in one project rather than one intern in a different project. this is because some interns had good supervisors that gave them a solid project whereas others did not.

    Pros

The co-workers are great and friendly, there is a sense of teamwork. Good place to learn and grow skillsets.

    Pros

I worked with a talented and respectful group of people. I loved the company culture, great campus, lunch room environments and gym. Fast paced you certainly couldn't get bored working here.

    Cons

Not enough people to get the work done in a timely fashion. Too much overtime.

I worked at Life Technologies (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Great benefits, good culture. Sometimes too fast and lose sight of vision, but overall good company. Slightly different now that they are a part of ThermoFisher Scientific. Regular merit increases and bonuses have always been paid.

    Cons

Competing personalities, some team players, some not, drive good efforts, but also lose focus. Moving up within the company is challenging unless you live and breathe the corporate mantra. They preach acceptance of all views, but if you don't fit what they want you to, growth is limited.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Truly accept differing personalities, and not just the corporate-type personalities where speaking the loudest (and not necessarily the most wise choice of words) is viewed as "someone who brings a voice to the table." That corporate thinking only stifles true thoughts, that you say you promote. Still a good place to work, but still challenges to overcome.

I worked at Life Technologies full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Most people there value your contributions more than the time you spend at the office. The teams are very coordinated and connected; they communicate every step of the way. They trust you to work with high-level staff within a very short period of time. Very interesting and exciting body of knowledge with which to work.

    Cons

Training was by documentation; the documentation was out of date, which we learned by spending time producing the wrong results.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There's a relevant adage: "Most people don't leave their jobs--they leave their managers." Like in most work environments, some of the managers would benefit (and their teams would benefit) if they took management courses.
