    All Flash, Little Substance

    I worked at LifeLock

    Pros

Employees committed to members. Good salaries and benefits. Flexible work schedule.

    Cons

Lack of credible IT leadership. Executive leadership seems more interested in surface impressions; right color paint, color coordinated desks, reclaimed wood on walls, etc. They want to look like the next Google or Yahoo, but can't follow through on their culture statements. High turnover, especially in IT. Everything will be fine at first but you'll burn out within a year or two due to frantic work load, unattainable expectations, constant change of priorities, and lack of coherent leadership. They talk about loyalty and investment in employees, but it's all smoke and mirrors. Little to no career advancement opportunities within IT.

    Advice to Management

Actually try to correct issues rather than just talk about results of employee surveys, and then change nothing. Try to address and resolve employee issues and concerns rather than just push them out the door. Lead by example. Implement career paths to prevent dead-end experiences that lead to high turnover.

    Pros

Good benefits and pay, but you're gonna earn it!

    Cons

No work/life balance - expected to be plugged in 24/7 - on PTO, evenings, weekends, etc. Cliques abound from executive leadership down throughout the company. Infrastructure department is consistently unstable, and one area that salaries are paid under market, which is insane since it's the heart of the company! Human Resources operates in "do as I say, not as I do" mode.

Performance reviews are completely subjective, not based on quantifiable measurements. Bonuses are given however they fail to let you know when you're hired that each department gets a total amount of dollars for bonuses to pool and it is not really based on individual performance. The cool kids get higher than average bonuses, which means the dollars have to be made up by the others receiving lower bonuses - again, all speculative and not based on actual effort or results. Culture and values are used to hold against employees rather than to enhance and improve the environment.

The troops are told that headquarters will remain in Tempe. However there has been an undeniable trend towards positions being eliminated in Tempe and moved to San Francisco (with no option given to those whose jobs are moved to relocate, and they are let go – some of which have been with the company for many years, others less than a year - could yours be next?). Is it just a coincidence that the President and much of her executive leadership team is from the Bay area?

    Advice to Management

Pay your Infrastructure team competitve salaries. Hire a more ethical HR management team.

    Pros

Top notch customer service. Great communication at the CEO/CFO level.

    Cons

Poor management throughout the organization. Hidden political agendas, blame oriented / CYA tactics. Accountability deflection by upper managment (CTO / VP level). Systemic, institutionalized dysfunction (Accountability without control). Hoarding of information. Extremely disorganized without a clear strategic direction or roadmap from a technology / product management perspective

    Advice to Management

Advice to CEO/President. Cut through the political maneuvering and don't be afraid to start over with a seasoned professional management team. Understand the basic axiom that the significant problems we face cannot be solved at the same level of thinking we were at when we created them

    Pros

Variety of schedules and a good product. The people in all are great to work with and have a desire to help.

    Cons

Directors give poor direction and don't lead. They either don't understand or can't communicate company initiatives down the pipeline. VP level and up have a good vision......Managers and agents are good at implimenting andproducing.....Directors just screw it all up by playing favorites and when giving feedback there is no specifics. They focus on generalities because they don't know how to improve and grow the company.

    Advice to Management

Get new Directors. The talk the talk but are far from walking the walk. Favoritism is rampit. The force people who don't want jobs to move into promotions because they perform and are related to a VP and refuse to promote or even interview people who are driven and want to move up.

    Pros

Good salaries, great location, smart staff.

    Cons

All decision come from top down. Employees are not enagaged in decision making. Project priorities constantly change but the delivery dates do not. People are constantly asked to work nights and weekends. Leadership offers "thank you" perks only to keep the face without true respect toward their people. It is not unusual when employees get yelled at my senior managers.

    Advice to Management

Learn to respect and value your employees. Get some leadership training.
