I have been working at Lincoln Financial Group as a contractor (more than an year)

    Pros

Have been working as a contractor for over a year. As such, the pay is very good, but no benefits. Job is okay, work hours are good (no night, weekends for my position), facilities are okay and management does try to engage employees. In my department, the manager is very good and really tries despite not getting support from upper management.

    Cons

The feeling among more seasoned professionals is that if you're NOT young and attractive, you won't get hired. They definitely have a "type," at least in marketing. Seemed like they used to have a good record of hiring contractors to full-time status, but since last reorg, no movement in that direction. They have no appreciation for the hard working, highly competent contract professionals who want to be a part of the company. You can linger in limbo here for a LONG time. Also, management doesn't want to create additional positions even though some lines of business are growing and there is plenty of work to go around.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Look to your pool of current contract employees and bring them on full time. Clearly you need us, or we wouldn't be here indefinitely. We are talented, dedicated professionals who know the job and want to be part of the organization. Also, don't tell us about how you made billions in profits and then not create the needed positions so that everyone can succeed.

    Pros

pay was decent, in line with other financial services companies, good place to start my career, but former coworkers who are still there are telling me i should be glad that I did end up leaving.

    Cons

shifted to an operational efficiency model rather than an innovative, employee-driven company

I have been working at Lincoln Financial Group full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

The hours are flexible. The company has a straight forward set of goals for the future. Tons of support to accomplish everything.

    Cons

Even the red tape is wrapped in too much red tape to use. To streamline job positions and processes for the future the company created an overly complicated system that doesn't empower any one person or even an entire department to accomplish any task.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The employees doing the work can give you a better idea of what is slowing things down than you can get by slowing them down to track what is causing things to go slowly. The backward policies of the company are the problem, not the people unable to make them work.

I worked at Lincoln Financial Group full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Solid company with good salary and benefits (ie 401k and vacation time), lots of great people among the various business lines.
Fair amount of growth opportunities, but all depends on where you work.

    Cons

Would rate higher but organizational change following the merger with JP Corporation in Greensboro, NC making this a completely different company - LFG may have kept the name, but it's really just a variant of the old JP.
Lost many good LFG people during this transition.
Although several business lines are well managed, advice would be to run, don't walk away from Finance, especially in the Audit area, poorly managed by unqualified people (ie inexperience or lack of credentials), with a high attrition rate.
Other areas appear to cut costs by "trimming the fat", but you could only ask people to continuously do more with less for so long.
Quite sad, used to be a very good place to work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take a closer look at leadership running areas that have high attrition and see what is really happening behind the curtains.
