interesting overall decent but unable to advance

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Washington, DC

ProsBenefits are decent, they do offer fun benefits and activities like Christmas parties, summer activities, weight loss competitions. Located in a good location downtown and metro accessible with parking discounts if you drive. 401k with percentage to match.

ConsThere isn't much flexibility with schedules and work life balance, sometimes a hassle only a few have work from home options. Have not seen room to advance or many career opportunities. The same people get promoted or acknowledged, hard to be able to be rewarded for a job well done.

Advice to Senior ManagementProvide more training and better work to life balance. Give career opportunities and advancement based on experience and not just eduction.

    The Mighty Have Fallen!

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee) Washington, DC

ProsI absolutely LOVED this company up until March 2013. The people were just great...folks you're happy to work with as well as ok to grab a beer with when the work day was over. Trust me, many beers were grabbed several nights per week. It didn't matter which department you were in. The base salary, bonus plan, and equity package made this place super attractive as well. Unfortunately many of these "pros" are no longer applicable at this company.

ConsIf I had done this review a year ago, it would have been 5 stars all the way. However, the company changed for the worse in Spring '13 and has not come close to recovering ever since. Led by an arrogant CIO, many "legacy" employees who were in IT, Product Mgmt, Corporate Marketing, etc. suffered greatly during this transition. Anyone with a brain knows that change is a part of any organization but when the changes are perpetuated by lies, deceit, and a general lack of caring for the employees that drive the business - that's a sure sign that it's time to roll out! The incentive plans and equity package are no longer a carrots to draw in and/or retain top talent. This ship is sinking faster than anyone will admit too.

Advice to Senior ManagementPeople are your best asset - treat them as such.

    Industry leader, still getting organized

Account Manager (Current Employee) Houston, TX

ProsWhen I first started working at Liquidity Services they had just bought out Network International. The work culture was great, small business flexibility with the capital of a large company. The work was hard and intense but after achieving great results they were very generous.

ConsOnce Liquidity Services started to really take over more and more perks were diminished. The office politics was at a ridiculous level, I spent half my time performing CYA task then actually getting work done. They would change policies at the drop of a hat, leadership was greatly undermined by lesser management.

Advice to Senior ManagementTrust but verify, a great deal of time and money is spent to train personnel but not everyone is held to the same standard. Small mistakes are going to happen, learn from them and move on. Large mistakes are overlooked according to seniority and should be further examined. Stop expecting everyone to play the same game when you keep changing the rules.

Project Manager (Current Employee) Washington, DC

In a transition (2013) (Godove Industry)

Staff Accountant (Former Employee) Owings Mills, MD

ProsLiquidity services is a big company based out of Arizona. I worked for one of their subsidiaries (GoDove Industry). The salary offer was 56k which was a very good compensation for the area as a staff accountant. They still had an old group insurance policy which are rare theses days which meant having an excellent insurance coverage as well as dental coverage. The office was all internal which meant minimal customer service and constantly answering phone calls.

ConsThe company had just recently been bought by liquidity Services, inc., so there was alot of company restructuring at the time. They hired me to handle an international account that was not up to par but had to bring up to par to be compliant with SOX. Management expected me the problem to be overnight.

No one showed me how to navigate database, i had to learn on my own. Managers kept interaction minimal. Cared more about what was happening in their own world. The other employees found out the salary i was making and were angry. They despised me. Especially this one young girl. She disliked me so much, everytime I talked at a group lunch or meeting, she would look the other way.. She had been with the company for quite some time and felt entitled.

Advice to Senior ManagementJust found out one of the managers is no longer there.

Similar to working at many small and growing company, a lot to do and very little cohesiveness.

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsThere are some very intelligent and experienced managers and employees. The industry is growing and LSI is well positioned in it.

ConsInternal communication needs to be clearer and less harsh. There is low moral and turnover is a regular occurrence for many of the teams.

Advice to Senior ManagementManagement needs to invest more in staff development and technology. LSI could also improve communication and synergies for internal business teams
