Not a good company if you want a career

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at LiveOps

ProsSome days you can work from home
Most co-workers are easy to collaborate with
Decent benefits

ConsSome individuals in management roles that are under trained and under educated
Horrendous turnover - people quit every week, there are layoffs nearly every quarter and people are let go secretly.
Extremely political environment - skills, education and hard work don't get rewarded. Those that are willing to play office politics do
No kudos for work well done but verbal confrontation if there are any issues
Very poor work/home balance. They delegate more work than an individual can handle and do nothing if it can't be completed.
Low morale in the office
Promotions and raises are few and far between so if you choose to work at LiveOps negotiate high from the start
Company has downsized corporate location 3 times in a few short years

Advice to Senior ManagementFind a better middle management team that can do the job.
Get a clear business plan and communicate it to employees instead of repeating the same message over and over.
Change the company culture because there is none.
Care about your human resources and focus on retaining talent

4+years Contractor -- LiveOps = Unethical

Contractor (Current Employee)

I have been working at LiveOps as a contractor for more than 8 years

ProsSchedule flexibility, interpersonal refinement, and rewarded challenges

ConsVocal sweatshop, no transparency, unethical procedures, no growth opportunity, scarce product info, effort and pay is = to outsourcing only it's native

Advice to Senior ManagementTake a pay cut and contribute to the recession. Give growth and 'employee' opportunities for showmanship and longterm producers. Put more time and appreciation into your revenue generators instead of exploiting them and their remote circumstance. Have some dignity. It's obvious that you're leaching off of the concept of draining new energies (people who are new to, and see the freedom of schedule) to keep from compensating those that have tenure, a strong skill set, and expectations.

Anticlimactic

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

I worked at LiveOps

ProsFree lunch is provided. The company has a decent product in a domain that has potential. CEO is profit-focused.

ConsGrowing company syndrome where it's not totally organized (documentation, have to figure out system architecture, design, technology by yourself because people left or did not have time to update/produce documentation. too political.

Advice to Senior ManagementReward people who actually perform. Better accountability for senior staff. Get in touch with actual customers.

– I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

Lots of potential, hard to succeed

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

I worked at LiveOps full-time

ProsInteresting opportunities in the market. Contact center is changing. LiveOps has a proven set of technologies and people. Opportunities for growth if you can make an impact.

ConsUnclear strategy from the top. Management team all seems like ex-Sybase people now. CEO lives in another city. Trying to succeed in too many things at the same time. Lots of people leaving, lots of people coming in.

Advice to Senior ManagementFocus. Reward people who actually perform. Better accountability for senior staff. Get in touch with actual customers.

Chaotic at best

ASR (Former Employee)
Santa Clara, CA

I worked at LiveOps full-time for more than a year

ProsFlexible work schedule
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Ability to use creative talents
Ability to work from remote office

ConsChanges implemented before thinking process through
Often micromanaged by people that don't understand the program or what's needed to make the program work
Lack of strong leadership
Lack of communication between departments
Inconsistent processes between programs
No work/life balance

Advice to Senior ManagementLose the clique mentality. Just because someone is your buddy, does not mean that they are the right person for the job. Hire people and keep people because they get the job done. Improve communication between departments and within departments.

Engineering department is hazardous; many key people leaving the company

New Chief Executive Officer and Executive Staff Bring Many New Problems (Former Employee)
Santa Clara, CA

I worked at LiveOps

Pros- good work-from-home policy
- salaries are becoming competitive (but aren't quite there yet)
- decent matching 401(k) plan
- excellent health care package (assuming you pony up a bit extra for the PPO plan)

Cons- work/life balance is very difficult to maintain
- 50-60+ hour work weeks are fairly common; some all-nighters are expected
- 2011 budget cuts have caused management to stop approving conference travel
- no clear company direction from upper management since new CEO hired in mid-2011
- annual forced vacation (or unpaid leave)
- most employee attrition/turn-over I've ever seen, anywhere

Advice to Senior ManagementBe clear and concise about your goals for the company and make them known to your employees. Stop committing new products and new features to customers when engineering doesn't have the time, people, or energy to build them. Invest in your engineering department - don't just be reactive to customers' immediate desires.

LiveOps Principles do not apply to DR AM's

Account Manager (Former Employee)
Santa Clara, CA

I worked at LiveOps

ProsFree food 2x week
Bring your dog to work
Bar on the second floor with kegs
There are fun people to work with here and there.

ConsHigh pressure for DR team
No pushback on client requests that are out of scope
Significant unprofessional behavior amongst the team

Advice to Senior ManagementThere is nothing that hasn't already been communicated to leadership at either all-hands meetings, exit interviews or other venues. Overall, its a great place to have on your resume, but a horrible experience to get there.
