Former Employee - Account Executive in New York, NY

    I worked at LivePerson

    Pros

    - Leader in the industry
    - Adoption of this chat/C2C Customer Engagement technology is widely accepted where as 5 years ago some were still skeptical in Fortune 500 organizations
    - Culture is hip and fun but sometimes bordering on ridiculous and maniacal

    Cons

    - The market space is saturated
    - LivePerson is on the right side of the bell curve in terms of new growth
    - In an effort to push the new growth, they came up with new products they've been trying to get working and sold for 3-4 years yet they don't really work that well. Every new hire who gets sold the LP religion is completely brainwashed that selling the new modules will solve world hunger, but they don't realize the veterans have been trying to sell them for 3 years prior and they don't work.
    - The emphasis on company culture is so intense that I think the CEO and corporate people are completely disconnected from the day to day realities of what the front line field people are doing and what the customers really need.
    - Anyone who works at corporate is connected to the whole corporate hoopla and they all seem deliriously happy and psyched up but if they were in the field listening to customer they'd feel differently.
    - The CEO should have stepped out his role years ago and simply remain a visionary while someone really competent who knows how to run a company knows what they are doing.
    - The customers are not that satisfied with larger deployments and it was harder to sell against the commoditized industry at top dollar prices.

    Pros

Smart people, interesting space in the digital world

    Cons

    - poor executive leadership
    - immense politics for a company of this size
    - CEO is in over his head and needs to go...a "Founder CEO"...Jeff Bezos & Mark Zuckerberg he is not, although he fancies himself to be
    - Product is scaled to small businesses, but over 1/2 of the firms revenue comes from large enterprise customers - they are not happy
    - incredible organization misalignment between product, support, marketing and sales...this company doesn't quite know how to grow up
Some of the firm's largest customers have taken LP to RFP and are considering alternative vendors/partners

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - Board needs to fire the CEO, Rob Locascio
    - Company needs a COO...the fact that there isn't one is ridiculous as nothing gets documented/executed
    - correct the retention problem among most senior executives...you can't hold on to good people

    Pros

seemingly a nice place to work - with a great culture of acceptance - at first

    Cons

too much focus on East Coast - poor management; ineffective new hire training & integration; unqualified managers, poor communication skills

    Pros

Vision for the future of a multi-channel digital engagement platform is compelling.

    Cons

Too many changes in sales coverage allows competitors (whose technology has caught up) to steal business and killing morale. WAY too much turnover for a company with goals of being a market-leader.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you really want your employees to "be an owner", invest in the technology you bring to market TODAY and quit changing coverage models.

    Pros

Leader in their space and always looking to innovate. Nice offices

    Cons

Lacking strong leadership. Some of the products are in silos, making it difficult to work with people in other departments. Some of management only have their own best interest in mind and it hurts the company as a whole.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You have strong products, but take a close look at the people running them to really push forward

    Pros

Good compensation, fun at times, good product ideas.

    Cons

Product is out of date and hard to use, they talk about helping others but doing really do so, there is no tolerance for thinking outside the box. Internal systems are ridiculous

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't be so complacent. Encourage open discussion. You have to be willing to change to grow, you are a high tech company after all.

    Former Employee - Anonymous Employee

I worked at LivePerson full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

SaaS company, global work, addresses both SMB & ENT

    Cons

Very, very, high employee turnover (HR will try to downplay this as a thing of the past). A lot of employees or either fired, or leave voluntarily (mainly the smart and professional employees). This is mainly due to the incompetency of the CEO and upper management. The CEO hasn't managed to keep anyone around him for years now.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Upper management should learn how to operate. Learn about strategy definition, what are the company's core competencies, etc. Stop going in 10 different directions (with at least 8 out of scope or irrelevant)

I have been working at LivePerson full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

    Comp and benefit are good.
Most people are great and fun to work with
    Creative team is awesome

    Cons

Except the CEO/Founder all the rest of the company is on the move constantly. VPs, directors, managers, employees, are all on the move.
Re-organizations are frequent (remember it's the con part)
HR is the worst I had ever seen
Product group is always occupied with doing nothing
    Too many meetings in general.
Growth through M&A is a disaster (look.io, amadesa, kasamba, nuconomy) - except amadesa that brought some value to the company through people.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Going global will kill this company eventually. When your mother-ship is not functioning right, the others will go down with a splash. Focus on doing the right things all the way. The ever changing product/s are not contributing to the success.

    Great people to work with.
    Cool product.
    Multicultural.

Career opportunities, if based in NY or Israel.

    Cons

Constant changes in strategic direction makes it difficult to excel. Upper management lacks focus. Negligable payrises. Cliquey.
