I was a Technical Writer/Editor III for Lockheed Martin from March 2000 to November 15, 2013.

Technical Writer/Editor III (Former Employee) Manassas, VA

ProsVery good company to work for. Good location.

ConsI didn't expect to be laid off after almost 14 years with the company but there were layoffs due to decreased government funding.

Advice to Senior ManagementIf you know a person is going to be laid off, tell them when you find out about it and don't wait until the day you are going to walk him/her out. This would give them a chance to search for a different job instead of being out in the cold. The past Christmas was the worst I ever had because we didn't have any money for gifts and we didn't even have any food.

    Fantastic intern experience

Software Development Intern (Former Employee) Gaithersburg, MD

Pros-Fantastic work environment: the people worked hard but had a lot of fun.
-My team was always accessible, and made an effort to have me work on projects that actually matter.
-I worked on a variety of projects, all useful, that were all fantastic learning experiences.

Cons-As a large company, there were sometimes some issues with bureaucratic paperwork taking forever to process: setting up the paperwork to work there was a pain.

MIssion-focused, great mission, value their engineers and veterans, tops in ethics.

    SysEng (Current Employee) Washington, DC

ProsHighly mIssion-focused organization, for a great mission -- defending our country.

The company knows very well that they are an engineering company. So, they look after and appreciate their engineers. Also great with & for veterans.

Tops in ethics. Excellent culture. Excellent people to work with, and work for.

ConsStarting salaries tend to the low side, salary growth tends to be slow. (Salary process has become fairly transparent.) Training budget always tiny. (Beginning to do more in employee training with innovative approaches.)

    Loved It!

Software Engineer (Former Employee) Herndon, VA

ProsFlexible hours, challenging work, opportunities for growth. I plan to hopefully return one day. I only left because our division got sold to an investment firm so didn't have a choice. Now I'm with the company called The SI Organization, Inc. which is all about money and does not care one bit about its employees.

    ConsToo many levels of management.
