I worked at Lockheed Martin full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Lockheed Martin is a great company to work for. They take care of their employees and tier customers. They are fair and pay reasonably well. They encourage hiring and promoting a diverse work force and encourages to all to participate. They work with leading edge technologies and have a great and well deserved reputation among it's customers. When my contract was ending, they offered my another position (although much farther then I wanted to commute) or a very nice severance pay. After leaving LM, they also offered a very good training program to find a new job. I would be glad to work for them again.

    Cons

They are a big company and it is easy to get lost in cracks. A bit top heavy....lot of VPs and Managers. I would like to see more spent on training to keep employees up on the latest software and hardware. Sometime too much time is spent on compliance training and performance reporting, but I think the process is being looked at and streamlined and this is only a minor issue. The expect you to work 60+ works a week, but they allow work at home when appropriate.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't let your employees fall between the cracks. Encourage them to look forward and be clear with them about opportunities and cuts. Try to ensure that the Functional Managers really know what the employee is doing on a daily basis. For the most part, follow LM policies and you should do well.

I worked at Lockheed Martin as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

I was surrounded by talented colleagues and was given responsibility immediately. I learned just as much from those around me as I did through the work itself.

    Cons

The company is enormous, which provides ample opportunity for different positions, but the corporate red tape is apparent for some basic tasks.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Keep doing what you're doing.

I have been working at Lockheed Martin full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Excellent management at all levels. The company really lives out its beliefs: Do What's Right, Respect Others, Perform with Excellence. There are many career paths to take within Lockheed and no one is limited to a single path. Management will work with employees to shape and guide careers. The company supports employees and allows flexible work schedules. CEO Marilyn Hewson is an outstanding communicator, and keeps in touch with the worker-bees. Overall, an excellent place to work.

    Cons

In big companies a lot of emphasis is put on winning bids, and high-fives are given to teams that win. However, a lot good work is also done on a losing effort. Professionals work really hard even when they lose, and their effort should be recognized and high-fives passed around.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue the open communications with employees about what's going on in this huge company....especially during downsizing. This really help when times get tough.

    Pros

The benefits are awesome and the people are really friendly. The company definitely cares about its employees. A lot of growth potential too.

    Cons

Communication could use some work amongst teams here and there, but for the most part it's good.

I worked at Lockheed Martin full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Very good company to work for. Good location.

    Cons

I didn't expect to be laid off after almost 14 years with the company but there were layoffs due to decreased government funding.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you know a person is going to be laid off, tell them when you find out about it and don't wait until the day you are going to walk him/her out. This would give them a chance to search for a different job instead of being out in the cold. The past Christmas was the worst I ever had because we didn't have any money for gifts and we didn't even have any food.

-My team was always accessible, and made an effort to have me work on projects that actually matter.
-I worked on a variety of projects, all useful, that were all fantastic learning experiences.

    Cons
