I have been working at Lockton Companies full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Lockton's reputation among its client base is excellent. Education is highly valued and encouraged. I enjoy working with the majority of the people in my unit. For the most part, they all strive to provide great customer service and high quality work. The daily atmosphere is friendly and caring. I have developed strong relationships there.

    Cons

Workloads are large and can be overwhelming. Expectations are often unreasonably high. If you do a great job and give 110% every day, you are given more work and 150% is expected. Leadership says, "You're awesome", but when you go to them with an issue mostly lip-service is offered. Action is either non-existent or very, very slow.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Upper management and producers need to be aware and better informed about the happenings in each of the units. Evaluate the current leadership to determine their effectiveness. Make swift changes that would positively impact your employees.

I have been working at Lockton Companies full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

    Work is work.

    Cons

The company rewards incompetent employees. There is a difference in treatment from one employee to another. True in other places, but in a smaller company, it is more obvious.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop rewarding incompetency and pay attention to those hard working individuals. They are the one you can count on.

    Pros

The corporate office is very supportive on all levels of business even for the communications/presentation side of it. Very active in the community (United Way Street-To-Home).

    Cons

Work-life balance is nonexistent for employees in a supporting/shared services role. There is no true career path and training for people who don't want to be in insurance (communications team).

I have been working at Lockton Companies full-time for more than a year

    Pros

There is opportunity for growth but only if your practice leader has the vision for it. In the two years I was there, no one was handed a promotion unless they had the political push needed. Beer and soda is free, but that is hardly a perk for a job that often requires long hours. They have a 6% match on the 401k and you are immediately vested, and there happens to be some employer funding of the health savings account. Technologically they are backward, so if you do not like anything beyond rudimentary excel, you will be just A OK.

    Cons

Lockton Companies are islands, in that the individual offices are disconnected from each other. And furthermore, each island has departments that are islands. Thus, mismanagement of one department does not spread to the others or to other offices. The private ownership of Lockton causes this company to operate in a unique manner. It houses some incredibly talented individuals in their head office and some other locations while also housing absolute idiots in some other offices. Often, idiots and geniuses work together, and often one reports to the other (and often it is the genius reporting to the idiot). Therefore, the opportunity to grow can be limited in one department and not so limited in another. Unless you find yourself working for good people who dont engage in extremely hurtful office politics, prepare for a short career.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Identify those who are an ill asset to the workplace and be prepared to make the bold decision to eject them for the greater good. And for pete's sake please hire some intelligent people.

I worked at Lockton Companies full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Lockton offers great training, and brings employee professionalism and service skills up a notch or 2 or 3. While the departmental demeanor/personality may vary, there is definitely a "work hard, play hard" ethic. It offers great opportunities to some. A great place to start straight out of college.

    Cons

While opportunities are offered to some, there is a somewhat conspicuous and inappropriate nature to whom they are afforded. They seem to prefer those who have the time to "play hard" - i.e. the young, unmarried, without family commitments. And people able to accept entry-level pay. I suppose many companies do so, but not so conspicuously.

I worked at Lockton Companies full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

    Great 401(k)
    Community involved
Hearts are in the right place for people in need.

    Cons

Women are second class citizens. Tenure is not rewarded. Compensation after hire does not keep up with competition. Raises are very low except for the "in" crowd.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be fair. Don't just take care of your friends and family. The popular kids get everything. Others have to work harder to pull the load.

I worked at Lockton Companies full-time

    Pros

The company as a whole is great. The charity work Lockton does is fantastic.

    Cons

DO NOT WORK IN THE LICENSING DEPARTMENT. The licensing department is the only thing that gives Lockton a bad name. The manager can not be trusted and will micromanage to the point that the entire department is unhappy.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Outsource the Licensing Division.
