I worked at Lorillard full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Stock market position. Strong leadership. Good people.

    Cons

Flagship product drives the business. Need more leading products that drive revenues.

    Advice to Management

    Innovate

I worked at Lorillard (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good old style paternalistic history with a unique capacity to grow and change. Great knowledge and understanding of their business, markets and watchful of trends and opportunities.

    Cons

One product determined their market strength and business strategy. In the end that product became something so sought after that they couldn't hold it. Flagship product sold, company sold.

I have been working at Lorillard (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Excellent place to work. Great Management in Southeast area Fair salary with above average benefits including 401k AND pension Develop good relationships with retailers Company gives you all the tools you need to be successful (car, computer, training, etc).

    Cons

I've heard some horror stories of managers who micro-manage and ruin rep's lives, though I never personally experienced it. It depends on the manager. Promotion requires a great relationship with your immediate manager, who is your sole hope of upper mobility. Company sold to competition, so this review is now pointless Company dress-code for sales reps requires you to wear a tie, even in 100+ degree heat

    Advice to Management

Relax the dress code… Sales rep's don't earn enough to afford all the dress shirts we ruin by working in some of our more dirty retail accounts. More interaction with the company. Meetings, conventions, etc. Allow reps with more opportunities outside field sales.

    Pros

Excellent training and support. The manager I worked for went above and beyond to assist his sales force. Communication was always very good.

    Cons

The days could get long and the territory was very big. I would spend several hours every weekend getting everything ready for the next week.

    I worked at Lorillard full-time

    Pros

Company Car, Great Benefits, Great Pay. This is an incredible opportunity for anyone who is not afraid of a little hard work. You must have a road warrior heart and be willing to develop relationships with store personnel of all cultures and backgrounds. It's not as much of a sales position than it is a merchandising and inventory position.

    Cons

There's not a lot of room for advancement in this particular position. You are welcome to apply to other job categories, but there is little room for advancement in sales, that is of course unless your district or regional sales manager retires. Other con .. future of tobacco industry is in question ...
