I have been working at Los Angeles full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Getting experience on large scale projects. Training was available within the City and in universities in Southern California, The City encourages getting board certification in my field and pay for courses that help achieving such certifications. It is a Civil Service System and you are protected in slow economy from being laid off.

    Cons

It is salaried position so there is a roof on how much you would be making.

I have been working at Los Angeles

    Pros

Los Angeles is a national leader in many areas of municipal government administration. When you work on a particular program, you have the attention of industry. There are many very smart and dedicted employees. These employees support each other personally and career wise. Though the City of Los Angeles is far from where many people live, the public transportation all goes there so you generally do not need to drive. Additionally, Downtown Los Angeles is a great place to work. There are many great places to eat and lots of things to see. I have been here 24 years and am happy to be working downtown. The salaries in Los Angeles are some of the highest in the country.

    Cons

Location, it is hard to live close to work. Most end up commuting. Parking is sometimes a little expensive

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to work in a collaborative model.
