I have been working at Lutron full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

    - population of young professionals is dominant and the work environment is very supportive
    - lots of chances to review your work to avoid pitfalls in your design, validation, implementation, etc
    - casual work place so it is very easy to get to know other people and learn from them
    - social activities with colleagues is always an option, some organized by clubs at the company, others that different individuals organize based on their interest
    - training is always provided and there is a small department dedicated for the internal education opportunities for professional development

    Cons

    - technical training is not rigorous so you have to be comfortable reaching out to experienced engineers for help and support
    - limited travel opportunities for a new engineer unless you are a manufacturing engineer
    - you are expected to be at the office 8-5 on work days and working from home is not an option for most employees

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - boost the technical program for the different disciplines based on what the new engineers use most to fulfill their daily respnsibilities
    - encourage morale boosters and provide a budget for it

I worked at Lutron as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

Substantial projects are given to co-ops. However, there will be some trivial tasks as well that are to be expected. People are generally very friendly and helpful. Most people are good at what they do. There are always new and interesting products being developed.

    Cons

Somewhat uninteresting location. A little too conservative and old fashioned in some ways. May encounter some people who are not willing to embrace newer technology or better/simpler ways of doing things.

I have been working at Lutron as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

There is a lot of cooperation within the company and decisions are made with long-term focus. Full-time employees enjoy a lot of flexibility to develop their career into fields they like.

    Cons

The company hire a lot of contractors and may lay off them easily. The way to maintain good benefits for full-time employees kind of relies on treating contractors fairly poorly.

I have been working at Lutron

    Pros

Plenty of chances to get a wide variety of experiences if you pursue them. Always changing and adapting so things never get boring. Up and coming management is very capable and promising.

    Cons

Always trying to get too many things done at once. Lacking focus. Top management is not very well aligned with each other at times.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get aligned and working toward the same strategic goals.

I have been working at Lutron

    Pros

A very innovative company that is willing to reinvest in it's future without the worries of what shareholders would say.

    Cons

As with any innovative company there is a high demand for responsibilty for those that work within the organization, this can be difficult for those not willing to lead.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to communicate with everyone in the organization as that as been very beneficial, especially during the tough economic times.

Great place to start after college

Current Employee - Project Electrical Engineer in Coopersburg, PA

I have been working at Lutron

    Pros

Its a great place to start working after college and they have a great salary/benefits package and support former Coops and interns very well. Team based work is predominant, and employees generally work well together. There is a lot of room to move around (both horizontally to other business units) and vertically (into lower management). Further education is encouraged, especially through in house classes by local educators.

    Cons

It is a younger company. Many in the lower management are less than 30 years old, which could affect some of the relationships with older employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

As a private company, it can be difficult to effectively communicate how the company is doing with the current economy. Remain as open as you can, especially to employees.
