Sales Associate

Sunglass Hut - Sales Associate (Former Employee)
Sugar Land, TX

I worked at Luxottica part-time for more than a year

ProsVery flexible schedule, its perfect for a college student, easy merchandise to clean, store, etc. Good discount.

ConsThe pay was low and eventually you get cut hours. Management has unrealistic favoritism towards sales associates where they are blind to situation going on in stores. Unprofessional staff decides to execute business decisions and important conversations via text messages. Disrespectful management and staff. I was fired without even getting a notification via their favorite means of communication, text messaging. The commission isn't worth it if you don't get enough hours to meet your goal.

Advice to Senior ManagementBe more professional. Their lack of professionalism is something that is hilarious. Have more realistic goals and realize that you won't be able to get a sales out of every customer that walks in, its completely ludicrous. Favoritism will only hurt you.

don't grow old

Manager (Former Employee)
Dallas, TX

I worked at Luxottica full-time for more than 5 years

ProsIf you like to work alone, you'll get your chance.
Some free benefits. Free glasses, free eye exam, etc.

ConsLow pay. No support from management. You're only as good as your last report.
Be advised, Lux only wants the young, beautiful and stupid. As you grow old you are out.
There is no future here, it's just a job, nothing more. Watch your back and don't believe ANYTHING management tells you about your "Bright Future With Lux.".

Advice to Senior ManagementLets try something totally alien to you "HONESTY".

Customer Service

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at Luxottica

ProsFree certificate for sunglasses for Full Time employees and additional paid time off given in the summer.

ConsMorale is low, there's a lot of favoritism and discrimination from the director, no appreciation for employees and supervisors need more help.

Advice to Senior ManagementImplement incentives for employees, hire a director that knows how to balance people and projects and not just focus more on projects. Implement more morale boosters in the workplace.

health care lowered, HMO plans gone, excuses to charge fees

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at Luxottica full-time

Prosfree glasses one time a year for full time employees

ConsTo much work for to few people, upper management changes almost twice weekly in some part of luxottica (constantly notifications of different department heads changing all the time). Few if any pay raises. HMO health plans disappearing changing to PPO, some departments outsourced.

Worst company to work for period

Sunglass Hut Store Manager (Current Employee)
Charlotte, NC

I have been working at Luxottica full-time for more than a year

ProsDiscounts discounts discounts discounts and discounts

ConsNo lunch breaks single coverage DM AA uses people to do her dirty work. Never trust a DM for this company. Don't bother talking to AA it's like talking to a brick wall. Also talks anout being fashionable at all times but cant dress herself. If you perform at 80% to the year you will get promoted fairly quickly. Expected to take conference calls when your at the doctor, off, or on vacation. Company can demote you at anytime without reason and tell everyone you stopped down. Overall just a really bad company

Advice to Senior ManagementFigure out how to get a DM who fits with the regions current management staff

Demand you work within an unrealistic payroll grid and then demand you to only report what fits no matter what you work.

Store Manager (Former Employee)
Austin, TX

I worked at Luxottica full-time for more than 5 years

Prosmet some nice folks to work with...5 years ago when recruited to the company, they had a great caliber of upper management .

ConsThat has all changed. 4 regional managers later and a company restructured and upper management replaced..they no longer value the employees. They are trying to force employees to deduct hours from their time cards so the regionals turn in what makes them look good. Also forcing store managers to reduce full time employee hours to 29 or less so they loose their benefits. With the monopoly they have (Lenscrafters, Pearle, Target, Sears, Sunglass Hut, Ilori, Aspen...just to name a few), shame on the way they treat loyal and top notch employees.

Advice to Senior ManagementLook at the track record of your tried and true employees and dig in to find out how to keep them and what is really going on as you onboard all these new regional managers. It would be worth the effort. Andrea is stepping in where Daryl Hammett stepped down...fix it, you are losing great managers.

Charming Fa├žade

Manager In Training (Former Employee)
Warwick, RI

I worked at Luxottica part-time for less than a year

ProsMy branch of Luxottica was Sunglass Hut, one good part about working for Luxottica is the discount. I wear glasses and to get my prescription at a fraction of the cost was awesome. Also if you are interested in anything fashion, learning about the different brands was interesting.

ConsWhen I first started everyone was wonderful. I was hired as a Manager in Training, and the were supposed to help me grow and when a store became available it would be mine. Everyone was really flexible with my other job and in general really great. They spoke very highly of our commission that we make if we meet our goals and that was another exciting aspect but only working at night, it's hard to reach your goals, and if you do its about 1% of your sales. When I first started I told them driving was an issue and I couldn't go very far. They pushed me to take a store that was over an hour away. When I declined, I could tell they had a sour taste in their mouth, and I began to be shafted.
My management staff was terrible. The staff consisted of myself, a boy who was available two days a week, a woman who could only work four days, another woman who could only work up to twenty hours, my Store Manager who was never there, and my Assistant manager who only wanted to work mornings. Being the only one with open availability it fell on my shoulders to pick up any shifts that people called out of, mind you I was only part time, and this position is not on call. When I was not able to take a shift I got blamed and it got thrown in my face that my boss had children and I was making her leave them.
The expectation from corporate was unrealistic. We work single shifts with an open layout and there are no security tags on our merchandise so people can literally just walk by and steal. It is expected of us to help customers while being our own loss prevention, which to me was way too stressful. When you have a theft you need to contact all your managers, even your regional to tell them, which is embarrassing. There is also no training whatsoever. I needed to do everything myself in order to sell our merchandise.

Advice to Senior ManagementIf a store has a low retention rate with associates I would look into the management staff at a particular store rather than overlooking and continue to hire new staff. Also if an associate's availability will not positively impact the store then they should not become a part of the team.

Worst career experience in my life.

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
New York, NY

I worked at Luxottica

ProsDiscounts on great eyewear. Otherwise, Just was awful

ConsIf you are a business professional and you are not from Italy stay far far away from this place. Rude, Italian executive tea,m with no respect for U.S. culture. Revolving door of leadership team. Revolving door of people from Milan coming for a year or two and leaving. Absolute nightmare.hate to admit I ever worked there.

Advice to Senior ManagementWake up and look at what is going on in the USA. You have leaders here in the USA that are toxic to your success. Best move I made was to leave , and I was very highly respected.
