I have been working at M. D. Anderson Cancer Center full-time for less than a year

ProsYou have a lot of opportunities to learn, great gym, lots of wellness related options.

not bad, but not great

Patient Services Coordinator (Current Employee)
Houston, TX

I have been working at M. D. Anderson Cancer Center full-time for more than 3 years

Prosgood benefits, decent people on the whole, tuition reimbursement is nice as is the cohort program ONLY if you are pursuing a degree related to healthcare.

Consrigidity in advancement, micromanagement, highly specialized which can be disadvantageous to older employees or employees that have time constraints that hinder educational opportunities

It's decent and depends on the day.

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at M. D. Anderson Cancer Center

ProsOnsite fitness center where you can work out during the weekend and on Saturdays. Shuttle buses that run between building on campus.

ConsWork life balance is not as it seems, would recommend a revision. Management needs to realize employees have lives outside of the institution. Parking fees are not good.

intense postdoc training

Instructor (Former Employee)
Houston, TX

I worked at M. D. Anderson Cancer Center

ProsMD Anderson Cancer Center is the largest cancer center in the world. It has a large population of patients with different genetic background from US and other countries. The funding from NIH, personal donations, and public organization is great.

ConsBig and hierarchy organization slow down everything. "At every step, we have somebody there to help you" means you will be stopped and checked at every step. Houston is hot, humid and Houston style.

Very Political Environment

Sourcing Specialist (Current Employee)

I have been working at M. D. Anderson Cancer Center

ProsLooks great on your resume! Arguably one of the best cancer centers in the world.

ConsVery political environment so growth opportunities are not always based solely on performance and/or merits.

Advice to Senior ManagementFocus more on developing in-house talent to prevent quality people from leaving the institution.

Very political place to work

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
Houston, TX

I worked at M. D. Anderson Cancer Center

ProsM.D. Anderson is huge so you get plenty of support.

ConsVery political. Your growth development and promotion depends heavily on how politically savvy you are, not on how well you do your job.

Advice to Senior ManagementFocus more on competency and performance record than just plain self-promotion talk.
