I worked at MAXIMUS full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

The company is committed to promoting from within. The company is operating on the base of projects that means that opportunity come up pretty often - if you are willing to relocate

    Cons

Very little training support after a promotion, projects generally have a chaotic dynamic to it. In general the staff is underpaid and overpaid for the the work they are doing. As you get higher in the chain of command the opportunities for promotion dwindle

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

While consistent promotion from within makes the company stand out, too little on-job training and support is given to the person being promoted. I believe additional funds should be allocated to allow the newly promoted to get training that would maximize their potential at the job, otherwise you what you get is fast track where all the people are not fully competent to do their job.

I have been working at MAXIMUS full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Maximus offers great opportunities for personal growth and career advancement. I've never worked with a team more committed to doing great work.

    Cons

Their compensations packages are less than most in the industry. It's not uncommon for exempt staff to have to work on a weekend or holiday and there is no formal or informal system of compensatory time.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management should consider promoting local community involvement through volunteer activities and allowing staff limited time to volunteer for organizations or causes they care about.

I worked at MAXIMUS as a contractor (less than an year)

    Pros

Management was genuinely caring with the contractor staff. I felt treated like a regular employee.

    Cons

Very resistant to change (as an organization) - particularly with advancing technology.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider the benefits of keeping pace with technology. In my case, training and development technology can all but eliminate paper in the classroom by using tablets with updated/current documents pushed to the devices.
