    Pros

    It is the number 1 ranked cancer hospital in the United States and it feels great to work for an organization that has such a vital and worthwhile mission. There is more of a "family atmosphere" as compared to other jobs that I have had in "Corporate America". Work/life balance is encouraged and respected. It is a very secure and stable place to work (part of the University of Texas, healthcare, multi-billion dollar annual revenues, receives large private donations). Employees are automatically enrolled in TRS (teacher's retirement - it's a pension plan).

    Cons

    It is run by doctors from the top down and there is a feeling at times that "the inmates are running the asylum". Decisions appear to be made by listening to whomever squeaks the loudest as opposed to stepping back and making strategic decisions for the good of the organization as a whole.

    Advice to Management

    Run the hospital more like a business. Have business people set strategic direction for business outcomes and do not let doctors override those decisions because they don't like the decisions made. Walls need to be "broken down". Information needs to be strategically shared and more incentive needs to be given for working for the greater good of M.D. Anderson (as opposed to upholding individual fiefdoms).

    unlimited opportunities if you are willing to learn by yourself

    Strict roles with the employee's position title

    Advice to Management

    Hard worker should have some flexobility in the place they see thay are most productive from. Being physically in the center does not reflect the employer's amout of performed jobs

    Pros

    Lots of room for advancement - if you have not ben there for >10 yrs.

    Cons

    Pay for parking.. which the costs go up every year and no change to the parking garage, high deductible for priscriptions.

    Advice to Management

    Provide some financing for research staff to advance and grow.

    Pros

    M.D. Anderson is in Houston's medical center area where as a scientist one can cooprate not only inside the institution but also outside the institution, such as Baylor college of Medicine, HSC at houston, UT medical branch, Rice University.

    Cons

    As a researcher, one need to cooperate within and outside the institue. Some time outside coopration save lots of time and efforts. Most of the cases P.I. took that initiative. The fellow set behind.

    Advice to Management

    Direct communication most of the time may save time and it would be more productive. Research is not a closed book.

    Reputation Direct management is far superior to any other I have worked for

    Salary Lack of opportunity for advancement lack of support for furthering of education at a senior management level

    There are too many committees and too many people that are "in charge" yet are completely incapable of making any real, positive change happen.

    innovative drug therapies, fast-paced workload; challenging and motivating good wook schedules, flexible scheduling available; overtime frequently offered competitive salary with good benefits

    Cons

    weak upper management; failure to deal with problem employees; HR is worthless, in that all it does is to worry about not getting sued, so it takes decades to fire a bad worker.

    Advice to Management

    Make HR understand that they are working for MDA management, not the other way around. Hire/develop stronger leaders & managers in the Pharmacy department

    Pros

    good research environment. people are general nice here. good salary if get enrolled in as faculty. Offices other than basement are good too. good vacation.

    Cons

    The paperwork efficiency is really low. Salary is a little bit low for starter. No cell signal in main building first floor

    raise the paperwork efficiency, give more benefit for the postdoc, invest more in research which will in turn help patient better.

    It's not a software company, so there're no software processes. You will work very hard.

    Advice to Management

    Management people is very nice. They care their employee a lot. However, the management process is very slow. When you request something, you will wait a couple weeks or months.
