    Pros

Pay is NIH standards. Houston, cost of living is low. Can live very close to lab. Health benefits are good. No snow. Gym is free. Scientific Publication help service is free. Medical center is ripe for collaboration. Many well run core labs.

    Cons

Parking your own car is expensive except on South Campus. Not really applicable to post-docs but Institute (South campus) offers higher salaries, but expectations are completely unreasonable. Don't suggest working there!

    Advice to Management

Unfortunately, discontent and some power struggles still fester at the very top. See newspaper Houston Chronicle for more information.

    Pros

They really invest in their employees with benefits like tuition assistance. I was still in school when I worked there, and they really wanted to make sure that I was happy and wanted to return to work there when I graduated.

    Cons

It's a challenging patient population. Every floor was different, but the one I was on had very intense day shifts. I learned a lot through this, but it also made asking others for help more challenging because everyone had so much to do already.

    Advice to Management

Consider hiring more nurses to help with the patient load.

    Pros

Very nice housing at Rice University and keeps the students well knitted and interactive

    Cons

Had very little leeway as to what project you want to carry out during the summer, most students winded up doing wet lab work and not necessarily clinic stuff

    Pros

Medical Insurance is free, dental and vision are dirt cheap. Research facilities are top notch.

    Cons

Some of the research infrastructure is archaic and run by people who should have retired long ago. Research protocols are entered and edited using Lotus Notes - unbelievable.
