Love it, but looking to leave...

Department Administrator (Current Employee) Houston, TX

ProsMDA has excellent salary and benefits; I do believe there is opportunity to grow and it's so large that you can move to different a different department and have a whole new job and experience. People are great, patient care is beyond reproach.

ConsALOT of red tape, ALOT of policies and procedures that totally frustrate the faculty and make the job of dept. manager very difficult. New president and EVP-PIC spend more time on developing "moon shots" and "strategic planning" than actually getting to know the areas and figuring out the real problems. Morale is low and I would jump ship in a second if given the opportunity. Many world-class faculty have left and many top executives. Makes me fearful for what's coming up.

ConsThe training is very unorganized. In the research department (Leukemia) people are unwelcoming and unfriendly.

Great company, great people to work with

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsThe people who do the research are passionate about the work. Employees are comforting and caring to customers and have a big heart. They are very driven to help with the diagnosis, treatment and follow-up with patience.

ConsThere are some employees so driven at their job that they are resistant to small interruptions. Some doctors can be rude, but most are not.

Advice to Senior ManagementLearn to say no. Many doctors seem to be told so much that they balk when you tell them any form of no

    Excellent mission; challenging workload

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Houston, TX

ProsEvery day a person who works at MD Anderson Cancer Center wakes up knowing they are going to work for a mission that matters. It is not about profit. It is all about curing cancer. Working in IT, I am not involved in direct patient care yet the leaders are careful to be sure we all have line of sight on how we contribute to the mission.

ConsThe last two years have been a challenge with all the leadership changes and lack of staffing. Many of us are doing two and three jobs. The stress level is high and uncertainty is making it worse. We hear that this is the "new normal" but we cannot keep up the pace. Many are getting sick and quitting.

Advice to Senior ManagementSeriously back-fill the positions. IT and other organizations are exhausted. Either trim down the projects or staff the ones being funded properly. We are staff for normal operations, not huge projects too.

Pediatric Oncology was rewarding and it gave you many blessings to be thankful for in your own life.

Clinical Nurse (Current Employee) Houston, TX

    ProsInsurance Benefits
    PTO
Many advancement tools for your career

    ConsOncology burden
Joining committees, pact's, to maintain a substantial great performance review

Advice to Senior ManagementTo not loose sight of what nursing is really about caring, empathy, and a positive aspect to the patients and patients care. Not making about its just a job and financial gain.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company
