    Pros

Great pride working for one of the top cancer hospitals in the world.

    Cons

Very hard to transfer to different departments, They say you can transfer after 6 months of employment but unless you know someone in management you can't move anywhere, If you are not a nurse or doctor you will get NO respect, They tend to look down on nursing assistants, clerks, secretaries etc... You might as well be invisible.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management has a real problem about choosing favorites. It's extremely unfair to the employees to watch management goof off and appoint their "favs" raises while your busting your butt for nothing. They should also be required to take classes in proffesionalism as well.

    Pros

Outstanding mission and service. "Making cancer history" -- what could be better than that?

    Cons

Can be very bureaucratic. Some managers are great while others are out to milk the system.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Evaluate management and employees on performance, not politics.

    Pros

Great mission, purpose and overall effort in hiring a diverse staff.

    Cons

Great job of hiring diverse staff but limited advancement opportunities for certain individuals.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Identify the "Behind the scene" employees and provide advancement opportunities for them while sometimes recognizing the need to overstep the limitations that maybe placed on them by the employee's immediate management...

    Pros

You get to help those in need.

    Cons

The work you do, if outstanding, will not be noticed or taken by management as they did it. Most people that don't do anything get the best reviews and those that bust their butts get written up.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to your employees about the problems they bring up and do something about it in timely manner.

I have been working at MD Anderson

    Pros

It depends if you have a immediate supervisor, who has the guts to go to bat for her/his subordinates - if that happens, it's OK. In my case, it currently does not.

    Cons

An Associate VP that fools all her superiors, and treats her subordinates like they are all the same, meaning, without looking into what are their strengths and weaknesses. She wants everything to be the same, targets people and, with the "current situation" excuse, strips everybody of any flexibility they had.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Have more honest communication with the "troops". Do not talk only to the people that report immediately to you, go lower and you will hear the truth, hopefully
