I have been working at MD Anderson full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

As a research appointment, there is a strong motivation being housed in the hospital with exposure to patients and their families. The core facilities (sequencing, histology, vet med) are all top notch. The compliance and grant offices are responsive to questions and willing to help.

    Cons

Departmental support is variable. Adequate external funding is a must for continued work. Neither of these are isolated to MDACC, but both do occur here.

I have been working at MD Anderson as an intern for less than a year

    Pros

Good working environment - all other employees I've encountered were helpful and courteous.
Nice facilities - large hospital, but well maintained, organized, and has a modern feel.

    Cons

Application processing time - took about a month after I had been approved.
Parking - not terrible; but many options aren't close (although there are shuttles)

Former Employee - Senior Research Nurse  in  Houston, TX
Former Employee - Senior Research Nurse in Houston, TX

I worked at MD Anderson full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Working with the patients is the bomb for me, they are all so sweet and gracious. Also, they have the latest technology on most everything as far as tools to get your job done. There are lots of good friends here. They pay well. The benefits are great.

    Cons

Since they are so big, it takes too long for some things to get done. Supervisors in the department do not use the discipline process well, they either ignore it or over-use it. They should have more training so you can know what to expect.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Look out for wrongful terminations.
