I worked at MISO full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Above average starting salaries. Flexible work schedules. Tuition Reimbursement. Opportunities to gain exposure to customer relations through attending (or listening to) stakeholder meetings. Good opportunities to grow....can move up to senior staff relatively quickly if you prove value to your department. Opportunities to work independently/ take initiative. You can define your own performance goals

    Cons

Company is still maturing....lots of internal changes going on with management. Professional growth can become stagnate if you are already senior staff. Not every manager places the same value on building comradery with employees....esp if not in the same office. Soft deadlines can cause stress because you never are completely 'done' with something/ projects are always evolving.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make more effort to get to know newer employees/reach out. Do not let low-level engineers define performance goals.

I have been working at MISO as a contractor (less than an year)

    Pros

    Very nice facilities and technology.

    Cons

The management expects their employees to read-minds and doesn't provide positive feedback at any time. It's perfect if you don't have family, friends, pets, or any sort of a personal life.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Realize that the employees are people with families, and their entire lives do not revolve around MISO.

I have been working at MISO full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Pays well and at times you can have work balance, it depends on the department you are in.

    Cons

Very non-challenging. Management really doesn't care about employees. There are a lot of yes men there. The compliance regulations are out of control Legal tries to run the company.

    Talented, trained, energetic work force.

Real-time operations management does not promote or value women in the organization.

    I worked at MISO

    Pros

    Nice Fitness center
Training opportunities if management in you department likes you
Social events like holiday party, summer picnic, and charity events
    Free coffee and tea
Opportunities exist depending on where you work in the company

    Cons

They are now on a budget trimming phase to cut and save costs.
I was the only woman in the department and one of few in the organization. I did not feel valued by my male counterparts or management. They did not respect my diverse or different way of thinking. Any diversity of thought or integrity of job was meet as challenging management.
There seems to be an ethnic separation of engineers by department. One or two departments has majority of foreign engineers, and then other departments have all white male engineers.
There are not very many if any African american or other diversity besides Asian engineers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You need to improve on diversity in the company, especially on handling women. Women do not think like men and those who want change or to do their job with integrity are booted out because you think they are threatening your position. You need to listen, RESPECT, and value the skills and diversity of thought in women.
