I have been working at MSC Industrial Direct full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Decent base pay, healthcare is average, nice co workers, good metalworking education, good vendor support, excellent inventory to sell from, complete independence with pricing of product and freight, good hours, no weekends, no overtime, free coffee/tea/coco, nice building.

    Cons

Very little commission potential, management is stuck on growth, but don't seem to care about sales people not getting paid, very strict time/attendance policy with no more than 2 minutes of flex per punch in/out, average healthcare, very few opportunities to move up without moving around the country.

    Advice to Management

Commissioned sales people should have more opportunity to make actual commission.

I have been working at MSC Industrial Direct full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Large, stable company. Energized CEO with great ideas and good motivating skills. Some really great people in mid management positions.

    Cons

Culture can be challenging. Many senior leaders don't seem to understand the everyday challenges facing their teams. They talk a good game but no action.

    Advice to Management

Might be time to take a look at some leaders with long tenure at the company. Take a look at how the newer leaders have energized their teams and learn from it.

I have been working at MSC Industrial Direct full-time

    Pros

Ability to move up in the company. They like to promote from within. There is succession planning if you want it.

    Cons

    The pay structure is outdated.

    Advice to Management

Base pay needs to be higher. Also, raises need to be higher than 2-3%. When you go to a restaurant you leave the server at least 10% but your employees get 2-3% IF we get one at all. There needs to be a cost of living increase as well!!

I have been working at MSC Industrial Direct (Less than a year)

    Pros

MSC has great benefits when it comes to health, dental, 401k etc... etc... work schedules are stable and nice timed nicely as far as off days including how they move around holidays.

    Cons

Unfortunately the whole management team needs more experience, guidance, work ethic and people skills. The "facility" I am from is very "sloppy" as far as communication skills, inventory control, keeping employees or associates as they say, showing any type of gratitude for hard working associates. They lie to new hires as far as what they are hired for and will be doing, the training set up is a joke, and most of the people with title's will smile in your face and snake you the first chance they get.

    Advice to Management

Humble yourself some... quite a bit actually!

    Pros

    Cons

Change with no clear direction Management does not understand the concept of privacy Growth seemed impossible Other departments were not always helpful and the level of attitude was ridiculous

    Advice to Management

Shouldn't discuss employees personal business with other managers If a customer insistently requests a manager you should take the call

    Pros

The pay is okay. The benefits are good if you don't have any health, dental, and life insurance.

    Cons

Some of the management needs to be truthful if you going to tell your employee that your going to let the upper management no a situation not wait till they are fired to realized what took place.

    Advice to Management

Integrity that is all i have to say

    Pros

Great flow of work, benefits are great also. Hours are flexible and plenty of company gatherings. Some associates are worth meeting.

    Cons

Working here is like standing in one place for years. Saying that, there is little room for job growth. Associates and Management makes it very difficult to work with. Highschool all over again.

    Advice to Management

There should be more options for associate growth, promotions included. Benefits are good but there should be more to offer to long time associates.

    Pros

Nice people, good training, clear vision of what they want to accomplish, decent compensation plan, lots of advancement opportunities

    Cons

They seem to have a clear understanding of where they want to go as a company but not a clear path as to how to get there. There was a lot of changes with in the organization as to positions and responsibilities.
