    Intern slave labor

Digital Research Intern (Former Employee) New York, NY

ProsCool company vision, central location in NYC, varied creative departments and channels within network, occasional celebrity sightings in office

ConsUnpaid internship, unstructured intern training/events, too many students to accommodate for (500 interns/semester), lack of day to day work, difficult to get full time hire after internship

Advice to Senior ManagementTake the time to mentor interns rather than just give them leftover managerial work to do

    Series Development Intern

Series Development Intern (Former Employee) Santa Monica, CA

    Pros-Resume Builder
    -Bagel Thursdays
-Staff that remembers you for later hire

Cons-You almost never have contact with anyone above a coordinator... unless they love you
    -Really mundane tasks
-Unlike some internships, they make you get them food almost every lunch time.

Too big, too much a$$ kissing, but looks great on a resume!

Intern (Former Employee) New York, NY

ProsI was an intern, but this is what I observed:

    -Laid back environment
    -Casual attire
    -Looks great on a resume
-Nice people for the most part

Cons-MTV is huge so you feel like a number
-WAY too much a$$ kissing (not my style)
-Located in an annoying spot (Times Square)
-Does not guarantee you a job when you finish your internship

Advice to Senior Management-Listen more to ideas of the people working under you
-Become more in touch with the company's younger targeted audience

    ConsNot noticed easily
    Unpaid
Some of the staff very cold and unbothered

Advice to Senior ManagementGive your interns more guidance with their career paths, be more honest about how competitive it is to get a job there.

Great opportunity for students currently enrolled in college.

Intern (Former Employee) New York, NY

ProsThe company culture is amazing if you are put in the right area. Unless you are high level, dress code is very casual. As an intern, MTV really tries to immerse the student and gives them projects. Interns are supposed to help the company, not just get coffee. This makes for an awesome experience working in Times Square. The company also has different events that network interns and current employees.

ConsNo pay, they only give credit. This was hard for me because I had to commute everyday and I lost a lot of money on transportation.

Advice to Senior ManagementTeach interns the politics of the system and make sure they receive all of the e-mails about intern events.

You make the best out of your opportunity

Intern (Former Employee) New York, NY

ProsExperience and cool company. Every day can be different. Only those who are persistent will thrive.

ConsDead-ends. Long hours at times. There's not a lot of cons at working at such a prestige company.

Advice to Senior ManagementContinue to work hard and you'll go far

Great environment, tons of fun, learned a lot

Desktop Support Intern (Former Employee) New York, NY

ProsIt's Viacom. You get to see really cool things happening almost all the time, like live awards shows throughout the building. Paid. Cafeteria food is really good. Everyone is really friendly and the culture is really laid-back.

ConsCan't think of many, really. The commute is a little annoying if you're not already in the city. Sometimes there just wasn't enough work for me to do.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company
