Love the people and very easy going environment.

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsFriendly people, good work environment, work-life balance.

ConsVery corporate, department for everything, at times there is no training or guidelines for a project/task.

Advice to Senior ManagementRecognize the talent you have within the company - people will surprise you if you invest in them.

Very poor representation of women and minorities in leadership

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
    New York, NY

ProsVery very creative environment, very friendly, supportive staff.

ConsCurrently very very male-dominated and -oriented senior leadership team. Almost no women in power whatsoever -- very depressing. Too much overpaid senior management (far too many lame ducks abusing spending accounts while more junior staff can hard get an extra $50), WAY too much middle management/ VP bloat, too much emphasis on the buzzwords and Techcrunch outlook of the day and not a longterm strategy. Too many kids in roles they're way too junior for. Endless red tape. Very little overall focus. Goals and priorities aren't articulated, half the time you don't even know which team you're officially working on. (Not kidding). Successes of teams and wholes aren't celebrated -- only the same few individuals are celebrated.

Do your time, get a better job

    Project Manager (Current Employee)
    New York, NY

ProsDecent money and good work experience. Work there long enough then go get a good job somewhere else. Summer Fridays are nice.

ConsIt is all about CYA and passing the buck. So many lame policies and rules. Can't get anything done due to middle management.

Very visible company, low internal promotion/mobility

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsIt's a great resume builder and there are a ton of interesting projects. The benefits are awesome (fitness classes, great cafeteria, time off, etc).

ConsThey seem to favor hiring outside vs. within the company. A bit of grass is always greener syndrome. They've created a program to combat this, but many wonder if it's just for show. Hence, people leave and get promoted outside the company.

Advice to Senior ManagementLook to your current employees for promotions! Or at least pay your employees a proper promotion salary. That's why people leave.

    Best employment experience

    Executive Assistant (Current Employee)
    New York, NY

ProsThe people here are awesome and make the work experience enjoyable. Upper management is very supportive in helping you grow and develop in the field. The culture here is also what you would expect of MTV--very chill and friendly.

    ConsCompensation could be better.

    Amazing

    Director (Current Employee)
    New York, NY

    Pros- Flexibility
    - Great benefits
    - Free to drive innovation
    - Amazing work/life balance

Cons- Its a big corporation so getting traction for projects can be hard. Loads of diplomacy and politicking needs to happen. You have to drive it because nobody else will
    - Every two years they shake the snow globe and make arbitrary cuts and restructuring
    - Senior management Goldfish syndrome (30 second memory inside a glass bowl)

Great place to start your career in production, but leave before it beats you down too much.

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
    New York, NY

ProsYoung workforce, a good place to start your career, good benefits, flexible in terms of responsibility.

ConsPromotes "jack of all trades, master of none" work philosophy. Squelches new ideas. Not interested in creative solutions or ideas. Happy to churn out lowest quality work for the biggest buck.

Advice to Senior ManagementTake a few risks, it's what put MTV on the map in the first place.

Great place to start your career in the media world....

    Director of Production (Current Employee)
    New York, NY

ProsA lot of good people work here. You'll gain a lot of experience; even if you're under qualified. ..trial by fire (which can also be a con)

ConsSenior management is out of touch with everyone below them.
Not very easy to advance up the ranks

Advice to Senior ManagementYou like to foster good talent, but you need to learn to retain these assets

A great place to get your start in the world of television and digital.

    Production Assistant (Current Employee)
    New York, NY

ProsGreat people on my team, all talented in their individual roles and respective duties.

ConsA total lack of organization at the top level led to late night shoots dictated by talent's arrival and schedule.

Advice to Senior ManagementMore collaboration and regular meetings would make life easier on the production team's end.
