I have been working at MTV Networks full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Employees are very kind, open, and fun. Staff believe in your growth and potential. Tuition reimbursement, 401k matching, profit sharing, as well as in-house classes. The Lodge is a subsidized dining facility in the building.

    Cons

Pay could be better. However, this is offset by the fun time that you will have while on the job, and the resume building name.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If only there were an easy way to get employee ideas, like for shows, movies and series, to the proper development personnel...

I have been working at MTV Networks full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Casual work culture, room for growth, experience is respected! Lots of employee incentives.. Awesome

    Cons

The food trucks are right behind us!! LOL. Lord knows how much weight you can put on with that going on. Serious things.. Lots of last minute things happen in this field.. So there are times when you do have to work longer or go above and beyond but that's typical AdOps/Sales

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Let me know.. Bc I'm management and thus far I'm having an amazing time and being taken care of and I'd like to believe the same from staff.

I have been working at MTV Networks as an intern for less than a year

    Pros

Great people, lots of time for joking around and getting to know coworkers. Fun projects. Shoot opportunities. Meet tons of people.

    Cons

Jobs tend to be narrow. Some days there is not much to do. If you're not in with the right people, moving up can be very difficult.

I have been working at MTV Networks full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

The name 'MTV' carries weight. Great group of people to work with, sometimes you get to be a part of some great projects.

    Cons

Small departments that are key to the success of the brand aren't treated as such. Unless you know the right people it takes too long to 'climb the corporate ladder.' Your voice is rarely heard.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to the young people in the company, they're the ones that hold the key to success. Try and promote from within.

    Pros

Excellent work/life balance. Good benefits. Opportunity to work with name-brand properties and products.

    Cons

It is an empire, and if you are far away from the seat of power, you may have little influence over your job and its impact.

I have been working at MTV Networks as an intern for less than a year

    Pros

It was an extremely fun environment (most departments). The financial department is what it is. Nothing exciting there.. even at MTV. But every floor has a different personality. Love that aspect. Most of the people, whether freelancers or employees were very friendly, and laid back. The dress code was also very relaxed.

In the summers, they allow employees a bit of flex time on Fridays. (not sure, but I'm sure they still continue this policy)

    Cons

They aren't so eager to hire full time employees. The salaries aren't the most competitive, but that comes with the territory in media and communications, I assume. What you don't get in pay does make up in salary though depending on what department you work in, and the connections you have. While some are friendly, some aspects are just cold and it was better to email everything than to talk. But if that's your cup of tea, not much of a con, eh?

    Pros

the dress code is super laid back so most people wear jeans or leggings every day. the work day is really flexible, lots of people don't come in until 10 or 11. my bosses are really fun and open so i never feel like i can't ask questions or talk to them about concerns.

    Cons

it's in the middle of times square so you have to deal with packs of tourists. but really, that's the only downside. i love everything else about mtv.

    Pros

Relaxed atmosphere, support for creative projects, exposure to worldwide musical talent

Slow turnover on some projects, lacking in-house audio suites

I have been working at MTV Networks full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The standard perks of working with a global company with a good brand name for a resume are there for the taking. Good benefits, vacation time, and work life balance are all solid and can be slightly better than other media firms.

    Cons

Politics run the organization. I have been promoted within the company but the key is having VPs vouch for your good work (even if they have never worked with you before). This is standard across all departments. Additionally the firm shows very little willingness to work towards their employees needs. Working from home is rarely an option and there is very little say in affairs until you reach a high level.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Cut back on the socialization, and focus more on employee development. For a company trying to reach a younger age group, it seems ironic that all of the individuals developing strategy are too nervous to lean on the younger staff.
