    Not the best job ever

Sales Associate/Cashier (Current Employee) Phila, PA

ProsThe best thing about working at Macy's is providing customer service and meeting the expectations of the customer.

ConsUnder paid for all the work managment expect from us.

Advice to Senior ManagementAttendance credits needs to be evaluated better, some people are not getting credits when they are due. Speaking to management is not helping resolve the issue.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

Don't work here unless you HAVE to

    Sales Associate (Current Employee)

ProsRewards for doing well, very flexible schedule, lots of perks for employees, comprehensive training program

ConsMinimum wage pay despite experience, not enough hours to go around, way too much competition, too much pressure to get credit applications (not to mention, my manager told me to LIE to people to get them to apply for credit cards, to tell them it was a Rewards Program and that they'd "figure it out on their own". I refuse to do this because it is unethical)

Advice to Senior ManagementFor a company that is so focused on customer service and MAKING MAGIC, they sure don't mind LYING to their customers. Disgusting. How about treating the customer in a way YOU'D like to be treated?

I am currently an executive for Macy's.

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsThe company offers some flexibility in terms of work/life balance.

ConsThe company has a culture hat is not supportive of it's executives and the compensation is below industry pay rate in all areas.

    It's ok

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsThe job was easy and the manager was a really nice guy. Direct deposit to the credit union was nice.

ConsSince it was a seasonal position some employees did not seem to care to much. Break times were way to short.

    Macys.com Not Agile

Senior Systems Analyst (Former Employee) San Francisco, CA

ProsThe company claims to be using Agile methods and it does in the small.

ConsAgile methods are not used above the group level. They use water FALL with indecisive management. Many people in management do not want to make decisions and own them.

Adding this to support groups (Dev Ops, Release Mgt, Ops., etc.) that are not accountable to any of the product groups.

Advice to Senior ManagementMake Dev Ops, Release Mgt, Ops. and reactive departments have accountability to the software developers that they support!

    Roller coaster without the fun.

Manager (Former Employee) Saint Louis, MO

ProsGreat merchandise, decent compensation. Bonuses are difficult to understand and achieve.

ConsUnrealistic expectations with the amount of associates. More work than life balance and constant fear of layoffs, which happen often.

Advice to Senior ManagementEven upper management understands the challenges that are demanded without the resources given. It's as if everyone has pretended to drink the lemonade knowing that true feedback is not wanted.

    I was a macys employee

Retail Sales Associate (Former Employee) Downey, CA

ProsI love the people I wirk with and the department I was in.

ConsManagement tend to have favorite employees. Instead of management treating their employees with respect they were get treated like trash. I got terminated just clocking an associate in, I didnt know it was company violation. I didnt even get a second chance. I told them I was ok by getting a warning but they said no, that they had to let me go. They tend to keep people that dont appreciate their job.
I dont understand why they have "magic" training when management dont work their magic with the associates.

    Strange Experience

Macy's Seasonal Sales Associate (Former Employee) Costa Mesa, CA

ProsThe ability to create coupons on the register, this is shown but rarely do employees know how to use this properly and quickly. I cannot tell you the amount of times i had modified a coupon to where our customers felt as though they could add on last minute nearby items. Helping me achieve sales goals in no time. 20% discount when you use you macys red card only.

ConsVery strange people that work here, single guys, married women from other countries, student in college, and high school grads. Barely above minimum wage in orange county. The interview that gets you the job is quick and based mainly on availability to work evenings. Hours are anywhere from 3-9 hour shifts. Alot of advocacy not to join unions when you on-board, you will find out why this is if you are hired.
The people that work there full-time use very strange sales tactics, Alot of this is how you handle interpersonal communication and if you can convince Japanese and European tourists to purchase more name brand items to up your daily sales goal, which during the holidays range from $500-$2000.
The break room is nasty! During holidays there is one housekeeper for both mens and women's macys

Advice to Senior ManagementUse the title you have managers, and go work at Nordstroms or some other high-end retailer.
You have talent, don't waste it here where you make 30grand a year.
