I worked at Magellan Health (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Benefits. Nice colleagues. Some flexibility in work schedule.

    Cons

It's all a numbers game. There is too much rhetoric. Demanding. Management is afraid to speak up to the customer, so they agree to ridiculous promises. Constant fear and threat of losing the contract. Minimal increases if any in salary. Outdated computer systems/programs.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Your staff are hanging on only because they are afraid of the current job market.

    Cons

Dysfunctional management. Leader hired friends who had no professional backgrounds. Passed blame down the line. High turnover. Changing priorities and no sense of direction.

Unorganized and deceptive make the experience of an MFLC very frustrating.

I worked at Magellan Health full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

None- other companies that provide MFLC's to military bases have higher standards, better training, competitive pay (comparable to what the market pays for education and experience of a licensed counselor)

    Cons

Very, very deceptive toward employees. Magellan will say one thing, after hire and commitment they pull the rug out from under you- with no remorse.
Magellan doesn't care about the welfare of military families in the least, as evidenced
by management practices. The people that contract with them will never know due to deception. They are all about money- that goes to the top, a lot like Walmart.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

No advice, they just wouldn't get it.

I have been working at Magellan Health as a contractor (less than an year)

    Pros

This company has nothing that is good about it. They lie to their employees, they cut your pay for no reason other than the share holders need more money. Nothing good about this company.

    Cons

They cut your pay for no reason, they give you no paid time off, you can never get a raise, you have no vacation, no sick days, absolutley no benefits. They call you, tell you have 48 hours to accept all their pay cuts or you will be replaced. The hire you, give you a contract, then break the contract so they can hire someone else that they can pay less money so that their shareholders can get more of the governement contract money they receive from the MFLC program. This company needs to be audited. Has to be one of the worst companies I have ever worked for other than Health Net. They do not care what type of workers they have, it is a horrible horrible company. I would never recommended ANYONE work there.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try thinking about someone other than yourself.

I have been working at Magellan Health as a contractor (less than an year)

    Pros

    Able to help families. Travel

    Cons

MFLCs are unable to discuss with one another or outsiders the gross mismanagement and bullying behavior of supervisors. Company pays contractors (MFLCs) late on a regular basis, lost checks, 2.5 months late. Deceptive practices. No commitment to the welfare of Military families as evidenced by their actions. Poor ethics.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Re-think the goals of the MFLC program- you are contracted to help military families. You can hire any employee to fill a position, but it takes a leader to attract and build a quality team of providers.
It is obvious, you verbalize to MFLCs the conversations you know could bring a lawsuit. Employees know more than you think. You are bringing down the program- less continuity for military families. Best employees leave.

I have been working at Magellan Health as a contractor (less than an year)

    Pros

Will build your frustration tolerance. Good interim job.

    Cons

Have waited 4 months for a paycheck after many unanswered emails. They lose, delay and deny as an excuse for mismanagement. Treats employees poorly. Employees must keep quiet about massive problems if they want to work. Contracts poorly written.
Contract employees must fulfill obligations of full time employees with no benefits.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Build better policy and systems and hold your middle managers accountable. Quality breeds quality. Leadership training is needed. In the long run people are important and they are the face of your business.

    Pros

No pros with Magellan Military Life Counselor.

    Cons

6 Paid Time off Days that can only be used for holidays and sick days.
    6months assignments or less
    Average Health benefits.
    No vacation.
Low pay for professional and licensed therapist.
Forced to participate in their 401K which you are vested with 3 years. You must opt out of the 401k.
Magellan MFLC employees don't get the same benefits as regular Magellan employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

MAgellan MFLCs need vacation and more PTO days to have a an optimum quality of life and be more effective to services members and their family.

I have been working at Magellan Health full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

The only pros are that most of the people are nice, and the PTO is good.

    Cons

The cons include micromanagement, a pretentious manager, and an unsupportive and untrustworthy manager.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire the department heads who support their employees instead of throwing them under the bus, who think before speaking or acting, who comprehend basic concepts and who do not micromanage. Having previous management experience does not mean one is a good manager.

I have been working at Magellan Health full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

The people you work with are great! That is the only positive thing I have to say about this company. Everything else sucks!!

    Cons

They monitor every single second of the day you are at the company. You can't go to the bathroom without someone saying something to you. They want you on the phones at all times.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Relax and pay more money to the people you have working here. Working people like dogs is not going to make them more productive. You will find yourself looking to hire more people in a short amount of time because of the turnover rate.
