    Pros

    - Annual team retreat. - Good food in cafeteria.

    Cons

    - Too much overtime required. - Insufficient training on products. - Little support from directors. - Arrogant sales staff who treat proposal staff as less than professionals.

    Advice to Management

"MAGELLAN CARES. As an active corporate citizen, Magellan is dedicated to improving the lives of individuals and families in need through corporate resources and employee-driven volunteerism." Management, start caring more about your employees and less about profit!

    Pros

Reasonable salary, good benefits, generous PTO. Lots of talented people in the mix.

    Cons

Direct management does not seem interested in supporting or engaging talented, motivated staff. Instead, manager seems easily threatened and creates multiple barriers in staff development and progress. After a while, just a burn out situation, with few options to progress. Initially very excited to work for this company. Now, can't leave soon enough.

    Advice to Management

Cultivate the talented, engaged and motivated staff you already have. If the bottom line is so important then keeping good staff to support the business makes sense.

    Pros

Able to work at home, great benefits

    Cons

The most toxic work environment I have ever worked in. Management is out of touch and dishonest and bonuses are a joke. Work load exceeded what was able to completed in a 40 hour work week. I felt like I was walking into the lions den each day.

    Advice to Management

Take into consideration that the people that are working for you are human beings, not mindless robots

    Pros

    Fast-paced, decent pay and benefits

    Cons

Management treated employees like children and were constantly telling them they needed to be quiet and work, when minutes later they would be loud and goofing off.

    Advice to Management

    Hire better supervisors

    Pros

Flexibility, varied opportunities in local community and abroad.

    Cons

Poor supervision, training, leadership; competitive and territorial colleagues; hostile work environments due to civilian employees feeling threatened by MFLC presence; lack of protection from hostile work circumstances.

    Advice to Management

Ensure chain of command and feedback that provides direct-service MFLC's and opportunity to provide feedback and seek clinical advice and conflict resolution about immediate regional supervisors.

    Pros

Work schedule flexibility, PTO benefits are good, many kind and helpful staff

    Cons

Frequent upper management changes+ many upper management staff with overlapping roles + a lack of good decision makers = confusion and waste. There are so many outdated technologies and processes and they have to have so many staff to keep up with the manual work.

    Advice to Management

invest in cleaning up and standardizing systems and processes for long term success

    Pros

good salary for jobs in behavioral health or physical health

    Cons

Current staff say Magellan these days often feels like a rudderless ship without a leader. As the switch to Magellan Complete Care started to come together over the summer, incoming leadership wanted the new team to oversee health plan's makeover instead of former staff. Current leadership in operations and leadership on the health services side engaged in a tug of war over the plan until it cost the company hundreds of thousands of dollars. The in-house bickering meant that important decisions, became frantic, eleventh-hour decisions. The company's staff is still largely comprised of employees who resent the new hierarchical structure. Staff have expressed frustration that seemingly mundane decisions are filtered through an exec gantlet. Costs to the company could have been managed if the reshuffling hadn’t produced such a chaotic work environment. But the new organizational structure put into effect has made morale at Magellan very low.

    Advice to Management

work with communicating with staff as well as learning staff actualy duties.

    Pros

Associates were great to work with. Medical benefits we good, but dental was horrible Very flexible with respect to telecommuting A handful of new executives are trying to refresh the organization

    Cons

Horrible culture - executive team fosters an environment of distrust. Constant fighting / backstabbing amongst leaders (EVP and SVP level) which is very evident to lower level management. Incredible levels of micromanagement within the executive team - they are not willing to let their leaders lead. Product offering is not competitive

    Advice to Management

Continue to shed your executive team of those from years past - they are roadblocks and promote the poor culture of the company.

    Pros

Rewarding work with all branches of the military- includes positions with schools, bases, worldwide.

    Cons

For our sector the total paid time off is only 7 days a YEAR total! Includes total time to be used for Holidays, Vacation and sick leave. We have 7 only to use for all three area.

    Advice to Management

Please evaluate the strain of the actual work and think of these employees only being allowed 7 days per calendar year to use for any vacation, illness, or holiday. This feels peculiar- like the dark ages. The work is very taxing and these employees absolutely need time to regenerate.
