Magma Design Automation (now Synopsys) -- Mumbai

    Mumbai (India)

ProsThis was by far the best people I have worked with. It was managed by a very able and approachable technical manager. Nobody bothered about dress code, or timing, or formal communication when it could be conveyed casually. Everyone, including the manager, trusted everybody else, and I have never seen anybody break that trust.

The domain being EDA, work was quite challenging and exciting.

Playing around with ideas and trying to incorporate those ideas in the code was not only accepted but highly encouraged. And by this I do not mean the so called "innovation week" every company seems to have. The seniors were absolutely helpful and friendly, never "demanding" any respect. Of course they did not have to; by their own virtues they got it anyway. They were also among the best technical mentors I have ever had.

    Oh, and free lunch. :-)

ConsWhen I was working, due to recession and legal battles, the pay was good but not very good (though there were employee stock options). From what I have heard Synopsys has rectified this situation to some extent.

Also, since such companies have a very flat hierarchy, if you want to become a manager as quickly as possible, this is definitely not the ideal company for you.

Advice to Senior ManagementPlease don't let the fun and trust die in the web of corporate processes.
