Best Supply Chain Company, sometime very conservative

Current Employee - Director R&D in Atlanta, GA

I have been working at Manhattan Associates full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

This is a review of the R&D organization
    - Decent pay
    - Opportunities to grow
    - Ability to work on own ideas
    - Very good culture and customer focused
    - Hardworking employees

    Cons

    - Some bad managers can spoil the company name and employee morale. There is no process(in some cases they are encouraged) to help managers improve their management style.
    - In some cases foreign workers can be exploited by low salary and process that lock in employees.
    - No transparency in HR process
(As you can see most of my cons is regarding the HR department which has allowed bad practices to continue)
    - Lagging benefits
    - If you are a technology enthusiast then this may not be a good fit as they are a very slow moving company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Manager training that focuses on people management. Do not reward the individual contributors by making them managers unless they can be good people managers.

I have been working at Manhattan Associates full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

It's a great place to start your career and you will work with teams of smart and motivated people. If you take advantage of every opportunity to build your network, in a few years you can be well connected inside the supply chain community and with client companies. You will get a lot of responsibility very quickly and will have freedom to do the job your way as long as your results are good.

    Cons

The current CEO, Eddie Capel, is frustrating a lot of long-time employees. Your experience will largely be shaped by who you work under and it can vary greatly. Your ability to move up will in large part be dictated by your ability to have upper level managers and directors advocate for you, simply doing your job well is not enough. At times, the sales team will give new clients totally unrealistic expectations of the product and then the implementation team [consultants] have to come in and be the bad guys, make the clients angry by telling them the truth about what the product can do, and work themselves to death to try to make the client happy.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Get rid of Eddie.
Stop overselling to get more clients, you are hanging the consultants out to dry.

Great starting point for career, but too top and bottom heavy (leave after 3-5)

I have been working at Manhattan Associates full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

You learn at such a fast face. Get experience right out of the door that you wouldn't get anywhere else.

    Cons

There are not enough 'manager' level people. New hires right out the door end up taking on responsibility (I feel) sooner than they've been trained to. No compensation for performance, rather based on entire company doing well.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay people what they're worth. Hire more industry experts from outside to supplement the lack of experience in the new hires

I have been working at Manhattan Associates full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    *Decent compensation
*Excellent job experience to be gained from working on challenging projects for top tier clients
    *Very intelligent coworkers.

    Cons

*Managers have a tendency to over-commit to clients, then push consultants to deliver.
*It's very easy to be overworked and under-appreciated.
*Company is making record profits, but gives sub-par annual raises.
    *Management is very against teleworking.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Annual awards are great... but they are no replacement for compensation (salary and vacation).

    Recommends

    No opinion of CEO
