    Pros

Good salaries paid, good office location, nice working conditions

    Cons

    Lack of imagination in methods and exploration; initiative is strongly discouraged, and no leaders want to be responsible for anything that could possibly fail; extremely risk-averse culture; stock price continues to decline despite oil price stabilization;"forced-ranking" annual evaluation system brings about distrust and an "every man for himself" attitude;

    Advice to Management

Marathon was the first sizable company to lop off large numbers of high-quality, experienced people in response to the drop in oil price. This was done to reassure investors that funds were being used conservatively, but it had the opposite effect of frightening stockholders who responded to this measure by a strong sell-off of the stock. Large layoffs are usually associated with companies fearing bankruptcy or anticipating a takeover, and this point has not been lost on Marathon employees or the investment community at large. Marathon decimated their technical workforce including entire teams of the best and brightest minds who could have taken the organization away from its fixation with $65/bbl-break-even shale projects. The upper ranks need to be swept away. Their secretive and short-sighted decisions have done nothing to move the company forward and they have left a highly demoralized staff in place after an unnecessarily large workforce cut.

    Pros

9/80 schedule that is very flexible lots of knowledgeable employees with years of experience great access to on-sight gym There used to be many more "pros" before the current executive management was put into place. Lee Tillman and JR Sult have destroyed what used to be a really great company!

    Cons

JR Sult is a bully and regularly belittles people unnecessarily..that's when he's not going on and on about how great he is. The culture has changed drastically over the last 1-1.5 years and not in a good way. When Lee Tillman came in, all employees were worried that he would bring in an Exxon-type culture...and slowly, its getting there. But I think JR Sult has more to do with that than Tillman as Tillman appears to be nothing more than a puppet while letting Sult call the shots.

    Advice to Management

Advice to the Board...clean house and start over. Advice to remaining employees...RUN!!! Get out while you can.

    Pros

I have had good opportunities for learning and development. Good comp and benefits overall, even if not the best for each benefit.

    Cons

New senior management. CEO is a micromanager with need for approval of CFO, so it's like roles are reversed. No other executives make any decisions because the CFO belittles them and finds fault if they do. Miserable work environment for those in compliance roles since introduction of rank and yank rating system.

    Advice to Management

Board needs to revisit decisions about senior management. Mitch Little would be a great CEO. The Board should emphasize compliance with Code of Conduct and all laws. Failure to be ethical will come back and bite Marathon.

    Pros

    Benefits and 9/80 flex plan

    Cons

Don't treat the employee with respect during a layoff. Don't respect new ideas from experienced and older staff.

    Advice to Management

Realize that you too are going to be "older" one day and may get the same treatment you gave out.

    Pros

Competitive benefits within the industry and great flexible 90/8 work schedule when you can use it.

    Cons

Executive leadership is poor at best and doesn't have the background, maturity level, leadership skill and wherewithal to move it forward as an independent E&P company. Truly time for the Board to make some significant changes at the top to unleash the Company's potential.

    Advice to Management

Go back to Marathon's core values where ethics & integrity where always first and foremost. Put the company first and your egos second. Time for the Board to admit mistakes in its executive leadership selections and take corrective action.

    Pros

Good opportunities for career advancement. Plenty of opportunities to relocate if so desired.

    Cons

Plays favorites. Engineers are advanced above those with the experience and expertise.

    Advice to Management

Appreciate good people and don't let people go just to fix bottom line.

    Cons

Most unethical company I have worked for in 20 years. Don't expect the company to do what is right or legal just what impacts the bottom line and cronies. There are too many other companies to choose from.... So choose wisely

    Pros

Marathon has flexible schedules and great benefits. The people are the best part of this company, specifically the people in the field.

    Cons

If you're not an engineer, you are not valued here. There is not a formal developmental program for new hires or experienced professionals (engineers excluded). Additional education (MBA, PMP, etc.) is not valued. Poor/average performers excel.

    Advice to Management

Too many managers, not enough leaders!
