I have been working at Marathon Oil full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Work Life Balance, and competitive benefits (they still have a pension)!

    Cons

Move and operate like a dinosaur even though we are a new "independent". Also lots of mis-management in the middle management area. Bad employees are allowed to stay.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Look for ways to bring excitement back to the company. Look at what companies are doing that are the new wave of business Google, Cox, etc. to see how to harness passion and retain young driven people that will work because they love to.

    Pros

Work/life balance is great. Most of the people are great. Company's completely focused on growing and making smart business decisions. Benefits for direct hire are great.

    Cons

Company has miles of red tape on hr related issues. If a person is willing to put in extra time, they will ride that person until they break.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Recognize the value of the individual, not just the position or job title. Think more than a few weeks ahead.

    Pros

Great work/life balance, people are friendly and want to do the right thing despite some old-school folks who are still around and didn't retire yet.

    Cons

No real career advancement unless you count staying here 30 years, then you can advance, maybe.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Follow through with your proimise to invest in people. Look inside a little harder before you go hire from the outside.

    Pros

Nice location, good benefits. The people that you work with are very helpful and the compensation is market salary.

    Cons

Not enough career advancement. Management does not notice any of the work that you put in and it seems like advancement is only for senior levels.
