I have been working at Marathon Petroleum as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

Given all the responsibility you can handle, great company culture, training is fun and extremely helpful, interesting company to learn about, a lot of co-ops and younger employees, pay is great, living stipend could be better, travel opportunities, overtime is granted for co-ops, cafeteria, management

    Cons

Work experience depends a lot on assigned mentor and supervisor, living stipend is taxed heavily, Findlay is a great town but not the most exciting

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I had a great mentor, but I know of co-ops that did not have the best experience because of their assigned mentor. Put in place a mentor training program that enables mentors to set co-ops up with a diverse working experience. At the end of the term, co-ops should be able to perform their mentor's job and NOT just tedious tasks even though they provided a "learning experience".

I have been working at Marathon Petroleum

    Pros

Company has great compensation packages as well as benefits. They really work with what you want to do. You can completely change your career path and stay in the same company. The people are great and the Marathon is one of the most socially responsible oil companies. They put employee, public, and environment safety first.

    Cons

The headquarters is located in a smaller town in Ohio. Not very appealing to recent college graduates who are looking to work in a larger city.

    Pros

The people are amazing to work with. They are always willing to help, and all projects are very team oriented.

Some of the refineries are in the middle of nowhere and the commute is terrible. Company diversity is also lacking.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire more engineers from better schools.

I have been working at Marathon Petroleum full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Great working atmosphere with challenging tasks. Great compensation and advancement opportunities.
Awesome company culture and easy to make new friends through the on-boarding program.

    Cons

Findlay is not necessarily the young person's dream for a place to kick off their life, but the company provides so many advancement opportunities to other locations. You can also live in Bowling Green during your time in Findlay which offers more of a nightlife due to the university.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider capitalizing on the Hess acquisition to add some other operations on the east coast to expand Marathon's location opportunities.
