Mission is worthwhile and gives purpose.

    Pros

An opportunity to impact peoples lives positively, while increasing awareness around prematurity, birth defects, and infant mortality

    Cons

Too many mid level managers and lack the direction and forward thinking needed for future growth.

    Advice to Management

Start from scratch. It's time to rethink how you do business since most companies are bottom up with their charitible giviing replacing the top down approach.

    Pros

A good mission and a dedicated staff of intelligent people. Nice number of holidays/vacation days.

    Cons

The cons are everything else. IT is the worst I have ever experienced. The systems do not function and make one's job more time-consuming than it need be. The help desk is anything but helpful. They try to get by 'on the cheap'.
Communication is another area that needs help. In the decade that I have been there, what the March of Dimes stands for is still a mystery to the man on the street - it is "Jerry's kids"/ "like Easter Seals"? something to do with babies? etc....
There is also poor communications within the company - within and between depts. Also, there is no 'personal touch' with management - most things are done online, with very little human interaction.
It has become a very bottomline-oriented place, where employees are "nickled and dimed" (no pun intended) salary-wise.
Health benefits are OK if you're a mom with kids. Other than that, not so great.

    Advice to Management

    Get with the program.

    Pros

Working with a purpose, ability to meet wonderful families and volunteers, great benefits

    Cons

Disorganization in the local Minnesota office, poor management, work-life balance can be frustrating at times, especially during times of important projects or events.

    Advice to Management

    Restructuring of local Minnesota Chapter.

    Pros

    Mission, hardworking staff and volunteers.

    Cons

Upper management is out of touch, puts up with mediocre field managers with very little concentration on volunteer development. Success will never be achieved when there is no investment in relationship building. Both with staff and volunteers. Need to address the high turnover rate, costing the organization millions. Stop worrying about the dress code and start worrying about the people.

    Advice to Management

Look inward the problem is not the mission. Create an atmosphere of inclusion. Stop the cookie cutter mentality, and start encouraging creative solutions.

    Pros

I believe in their mission. I gained a lot of varied experience working here.

    Cons

No room for advancement in the local chapter.

    Pros

Good mission, people care about what they do. Great history of success, and does more than most people think to prevent prematurity and birth defects.

    Cons

Lots of cost cutting in all areas during the last few years. They seem to think that spending less will magically make things better. Environment is stifling for growth and new ideas.

    Advice to Management

Try something new. Change! More training for new staff, investment in new things.
