I have been working at MarketShare full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    Smart, collaborative employees.
    Great personalities among peers.
    Unlimited vacation/time off.
    Challenging work, fast paced environment.
Office locations are modern and in great locations.

    Cons

    Not enough professional growth potential.
Lack of recognition except at highest levels.
    Expectations not always clear.
No 401K match, EPU structure seems vague.
Disconnect between senior management and employees makes morale suffer.
Work/life balance is mediocre at best.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Interactions with the employees "in the trenches" feels superficial.
Find ways to authentically value and recognize employees at all levels.

I have been working at MarketShare

    Pros

    1. It is the leader in marketing mix modeling. Since the field is gaining traction among many marketing leaders (partly due to all the Big Data hype), MarketShare has access to CMO for most of its engagements. For certain clients, the work does have potential to impact decisions.
    2. There are a lot of intelligent colleagues. The team is full of PhDs in Econ/Math/Stat and MBAs from top B-schools. However, many of them are not happy, so they don’t put 100% into work.
    3. The hours are quite flexible. It is okay to work from home occasionally.

    Cons

As many reviews mentioned, the culture here is superficial, many senior leaders are not genuine. The followings have made it worse, hopefully the executives can pay some attention.

    1. Long-term Project Staffing – Everyone is staffed on 2 or 3 multi-year projects, so you will be doing the same thing again and again. Yes, having a good level of staffing consistency helps efficiency as well as consistency to the client, but it also kills creativity.
    2. Narrow Scope of Work – In a nutshell, MarketShare uses the same approach for every client and every project. To be fair, it is a good thing for the company to focus on scaling its core. However, it also means the work can become mechanic and unstimulating, and employees cannot gain much transferrable experience. This might be improved as the company enters Digital Attribution, but it is too early to tell.
    3. Team Division/Disconnect – There is a clear division of team (Strategy, Data Management, Modeling, Product, etc.). So as another review said, “do not join if you are thinking you get to work on analytics”, the truth is many strategists don’t even know the basics of statistics. If you are joining as a Modeler or Data Specialist, don’t expect much client interaction at all.
    4. Lack of Recognition/Promotion – The funny thing is that they keep promoting people on the top (even more ironically, right before 360 review), while rarely promoting people who actually do the day to day work.
    5. Mediocre Pay – While the starting salary might be okay, the raise that you will get each year is a joke until a promotion. In addition, there is no 401K match.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The company has put all the focus on sales, while paying insufficient attention to build a strong team. Take some time to understand why the work and culture are demotivating many smart and hardworking employees that you have.

    Pros

Really smart group of people - everyone is willing to work together without much of the usual politics.

    Cons

Long hours and you are expected to be always on and available. Senior management are more concerned with loading up the pipeline of projects - rather than staffing appropriately to execute the work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Build a more cohesive message to employees and realize it's not a startup anymore... or a sweatshop.

I have been working at MarketShare full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

    -Exposure to new technologies.
    -Good colleagues to work with.

    Cons

-Too much power rests with too few people. So, it is the impressions that matter than the actual performances.
-The senior management's planning is worst. The employees are at times very free and at times too pressurized due to work.
-The work environment is not so good, even though the colleagues are warm and cordial.
-It is no more a "start-up" kind of a culture.

I have been working at MarketShare full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

    1. Awesome, collaborative team.
    2. Fun start-up environment.
    3. A lot of room for growth.
    4. A lot of work- you're always busy.
    5. Since its a growing company, know if you're smart and do your research and prepare well, you have a good shot.

    Cons

    1. Expectations aren't always clear.
    2. Of late, there has been a lot of movement with people coming and leaving the firm, and with some top talent leaving, the firm is becoming a lot more corporate than it was to start out with.
    3. You get to work with one client, and that's that. Not a lot of diversity in the work you do.
    4. Unlike other firms in the industry, they split their modeling and strategy team, and while you have to understand the basics, it can actually work in your favor if you prefer one area.
