Definitely one of the worst employers that I've ever had.

SPA Concierge (Former Employee)
Miami Beach, FL

I worked at Marriott part-time for more than a year

ProsWorld-wide hotel benefits. Room for growth- as long as they like you.

ConsHR was not confidential. Hotel HR would tell everything said in confidence to manager. Regional HR also protected management that was maltreating and harassing employees.

Advice to Senior ManagementThe charade that a no retaliation policy exists is absurd. If you represent it- do it for your employees.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

The worst experience in my life!!!!

Banquet Server (Former Employee)
Schaumburg, IL

I worked at Marriott full-time for less than a year

ProsIt was a job only.

ConsBanquet servers receive no gratuities whatsoever even though the hotel adds a 18% service charge to all of their clients. Servers set-up and breakdown all tables, etc. Treated like slaves in which management has absolutely no respect for whatsoever.

Advice to Senior ManagementYou absolutely are horrific at your jobs and totally suck!!!

Demeaning and Disrespectful management/High employee Turn over

Front Desk Associate (Former Employee)
El Paso, TX

I worked at Marriott full-time for less than a year

ProsProvided employee lunches, made sure you took your lunch.

ConsHigh turn over rate, Terrible management,

Advice to Senior ManagementThis particular property has had over 5 front desk agents quit in the last 3 months. The manager is incredibly demeaning and talks down to her employees. She embarrasses them in front of her guests and she is incredibly disrespectful. It is not just her front desk agents but other management as well. When I left I had many different people telling me they had experienced the same thing working for her. This place needs to be under investigation. I have documented everything down to calling her employees "dyslexic" "hard of hearing" saying that there are plenty of people in line to take their jobs. She doesnt allow them at the front desk until they have trained for 1-3 months in the back office in the "At your service" department. I myself have worked at a Hilton Property in Napa Valley california for almost 4 years and I have never been so disrespected. I have documented all of my particular incidents with her and would like to be contacted by someone in corporate to share them with. It has an incredibly high turn over rate which I am sure is costing you guys a ton of money to buy uniforms and pay these "temporary employees"

Worst Company Ever!

Customer Care Sales Specialist (Former Employee)

I worked at Marriott full-time for more than a year

ProsThere are not any pros.

ConsThe company's pay rate is real low, you can't even pay your rent or car note. They think feeding you with food is what is necessary with their crappy insurance. They conspire against u with other managers to get u fired. So watch ur back. There aren't any raises. This company is real cheap, and dey make billions. They have thirsty managers trying to get with their employees.

Advice to Senior ManagementStop lying, check email correspondences, and do research.

Great service to its customer, not so much for its employees

Front Desk Agent (Former Employee)
Miami, FL

I worked at Marriott full-time for more than 3 years

ProsHotel discounts. Meet new interesting people.

ConsToo many chiefs and no Indians. There are more supervisors at the front desk than regular employees. The hours are long and random. There are times were you will work back-to-back shifts or shifts that won't allow you to rest appropriately. A hotel is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, all year long. There are 5 different shifts to work from. This really messes up with your sleeping cycle. More cons: Getting yelled at by guest. Getting yelled at by managers. If a guess complains about ANYTHING, you get written up. Three write-ups in 6 months and you are FIRED. Moreover, its like a school yard behind the scenes. Especially if you work in a hotel with 600+ rooms. More employees = more drama.

Blah

Guest Service Representative (Current Employee)
Red Bank, NJ

I have been working at Marriott full-time for more than a year

ProsIt was a great way to understand what happens behind the scenes at a hotel

ConsMakes me never want to work for this company ever again

Advice to Senior ManagementTreat employees that went out on LOA better than you do. Don't cut their hours after they come back and than let them go for being out legally on LOA.

It's not like it use to be.....

Senior Financial Analyst (Current Employee)
Rockville, MD

I have been working at Marriott full-time for more than 10 years

ProsLocation, associates and good benefits

ConsUpper management's brash attitudes, upper management lack of humanity

Advice to Senior ManagementYou need to come back to earth and start realizing.....Mr. Marriott Sr. built this company from the ground up by CARING for his associates and treating them like family. Marriott has gone down hill for the last 5 years ~ since Mr. Sorenson stepped in. So sad to see such a great company fall to pieces.

Left a good job for what seemed to be a promising opportunity but was laid off after 3 months with no warning.

Sales Manager (Current Employee)

I have been working at Marriott full-time for less than a year

ProsEmployee discount, meal options, that's about it

ConsCompensation, poor stability (laid off with another individual due to departmental cuts after three months of employment), no consideration for their employees

Advice to Senior ManagementTry to be more considerate of your employees. Do not fill with false hopes and promises.

Terrible PTO

Assistant Manager (Current Employee)
Bethesda, MD

I have been working at Marriott full-time for less than a year

ProsPeople are nice and knowledgeable. Certain departments permit telecommuting. Health insurance is pretty decent.

ConsThe PTO for new hires is laughable, as you start out with 12 days. Not sure how this company can be rated top by working mother magazine! As a working mother, 12 days are not enough. Then they also decided to get rid of the "Borrow Leave" policy. So you have to use all your prior year leave by June 28, only get 12 days, cannot borrow any leave, thus have no PTO available for when your kids are on summer break. I'll be leaving this company next year. There are better places out there. Marriott had the reputation of being a great employer, but that certainly will fade, as more of the older people retire and new people with the same crappy benefits are hired.

Advice to Senior ManagementWho wants to be loyal to you, when you provide such horrible benefits? The pay is already below average, at least give people who you demand BA's, MA's, and CPA's from, a decent vacation policy.
