ProsGreat place for lip service. If you want to move up in the organization, you must be buddy with your boss.

ConsNo opportunities for non-minority in advancement. No consideration whatsoever on length of empoyment.

I loathe being a banquet server.

    Banquet Server (Current Employee)

ProsMy starting pay was $10.25 and I like the majority of the people I work with.

ConsI don't have the personality for this job.

The hours are terrible. The only guarantee is that I can never make weekend plans. I either have to be at work a 5am and work into the afternoon or work until 1-2am, and most of my shifts are 10-12 hours long. I hate dealing with and cleaning up after the snooky customers, I hate having to move heavy s*** all day, my boss is an anal-retentive blow hard. Everything is broken and there's rarely enough supplies for me to do my job properly.

It's the standard "too much work for too little" situation. The job is far from mentally stimulating yet physically demanding. Staff moral is always low, and if I hear one more empty "you're the face of the company! smile! we couldn't do any of this without you!" comment, I'm going to lose my mind.

Take this job if: you enjoy mindless busywork that will last into the early morning ("oh, I know it's 2:30am and you've been working for 10 hours, but you have to polish this tub of silverware before you go") , cranky coworkers, being on your feet for 9+ hours a day, carrying/pushing heavy carts full of dishes from one end of a hotel to the other, like working on weekends and having 0-to-no social life.

This job is good for high school students who need money and don't know any better. It was my mistake taking the job in the first place and I'm counting down the days until my last shift.

Advice to Senior ManagementIf something is broken or if there isn't enough dishes/silverware, etc., BUY IT FOR YOUR STAFF! The job is thankless and annoying enough but WE are the ones that get all of the complaints from the customers, not you.

    The supervisors suck

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
    Charlotte, NC

ProsGetting hook ups to almost any type of event in the city.

ConsThe management sucks. The asst general manager is the only one who actually deserves her job.

Advice to Senior ManagementThe gm should figure out a way to provide free breakfast, coffee, and parking so that the guests are happy versus blaming her staff. Also she should stop hiring friends and hire people who are actually able to lead a team in a positive, firm, and fair manner.

Flagstaff courtyard marriott- Worst place to work EVER!

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsNice building, other than that it's a dump. Pay is ok but could be better. Get new management. Get new management.

ConsUnorganized, staff & management steals housekeepers tips, housekeepers are blamed for a lot of stuff that is the result of poor management.

Advice to Senior ManagementGet new management!

It's not like it use to be.....

    Senior Financial Analyst (Current Employee)
    Rockville, MD

    ProsLocation, associates and good benefits

ConsUpper management's brash attitudes, upper management lack of humanity

Advice to Senior ManagementYou need to come back to earth and start realizing.....Mr. Marriott Sr. built this company from the ground up by CARING for his associates and treating them like family. Marriott has gone down hill for the last 5 years ~ since Mr. Sorenson stepped in. So sad to see such a great company fall to pieces.

ProsIt was a great way to understand what happens behind the scenes at a hotel

ConsMakes me never want to work for this company ever again

Advice to Senior ManagementTreat employees that went out on LOA better than you do. Don't cut their hours after they come back and than let them go for being out legally on LOA.

Left a good job for what seemed to be a promising opportunity but was laid off after 3 months with no warning.

    Sales Manager (Current Employee)

ProsEmployee discount, meal options, that's about it

ConsCompensation, poor stability (laid off with another individual due to departmental cuts after three months of employment), no consideration for their employees

Advice to Senior ManagementTry to be more considerate of your employees. Do not fill with false hopes and promises.

    Terrible PTO

    Assistant Manager (Current Employee)
    Bethesda, MD

ProsPeople are nice and knowledgeable. Certain departments permit telecommuting. Health insurance is pretty decent.

ConsThe PTO for new hires is laughable, as you start out with 12 days. Not sure how this company can be rated top by working mother magazine! As a working mother, 12 days are not enough. Then they also decided to get rid of the "Borrow Leave" policy. So you have to use all your prior year leave by June 28, only get 12 days, cannot borrow any leave, thus have no PTO available for when your kids are on summer break. I'll be leaving this company next year. There are better places out there. Marriott had the reputation of being a great employer, but that certainly will fade, as more of the older people retire and new people with the same crappy benefits are hired.

Advice to Senior ManagementWho wants to be loyal to you, when you provide such horrible benefits? The pay is already below average, at least give people who you demand BA's, MA's, and CPA's from, a decent vacation policy.
