It was a great paying first job. If you get to know managers well it pays off to be good friends with them.

I have been working at Marriott part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

    Great Pay. Great atmosphere.

    Cons

Alcohol is sold to customers at pool, and it is hot outside in the summer, so they can get a temper real quick.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make sure you check in on the employees and see if they have any complaints you can fix.

Overall great experience as a Lifeguard at Gaylord Texan's Paradise Springs (run by Marriott)

I worked at Marriott part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

More than adequate pay for a lifeguard. Training through Ellis and Assoc. Paid hourly wages throughout training and in-services. Really awesome co-workers and Lifeguard Leads. It was my understanding that it was fairly easy to get promoted to a Lead if you had worked a previous summer.

    Cons

There was a pretty tedious "New STAR Orientation" that was almost useless for lifeguards, as we worked at a separate facility. But it was only two days and we were paid hourly wages for the entire thing. Not good if you're looking for a permanent position, as lifeguarding is seasonal.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider omitting Paradise Spring staff from New STAR Orientation, as it mostly covers hotel policies that do not apply to Paradise Springs.

    I worked at Marriott

    Pros

Marriott really seems to care about it's employees. Managers were great to work with and for the most part they were open to hearing your suggestions.

    Cons

Obviously every location is different. In some places the work environment was better than others but over all Marriott is a good place to work.

    I worked at Marriott

    Pros

Co-workers are super friendly and fun, guests are pretty great with a lot of regulars

    Cons

A lot of guests come in thinking they're staying at the Harbor or will be able to see the stadium from their room and are disappointed.

I worked at Marriott full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

    - Marriott takes care of their employees
    - The Marriott standard is upheld to the best of their abilities
    - Friends and family discounts at any Marriott, employee discounts are even better
    - "My company store" allows you to get discounts on anything you can think of with Marriott
    - Excellent training as an operations intern

    Cons

    - If you are going in to the hospitality industry, primarily management, you will work long hours. Those of us who love the industry already know this and are willing to continue working because we are passionate and driven, but for the associates just there for a paycheck it could be frustrating.

I worked at Marriott as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

staff was professional and friendly, I adapted very quick and learned so much .I worked in the sales and accounting department and I felt important and very much liked by my staff which were so much more experienced then me. I was respected and was given an opportunity to hold my own safety training class ( by my self) which involved the entire staff of the hotel to sit through an hour to 2 hour long test about blood pathogens, emergency conditions etc.

    Cons

unfortunately my internship was over and due too layoffs at the time I wasn't able to be hired.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    please hire me again
