I have been working at Marriott full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Insurance and other benefits are reasonable (although base compensation is low and increases too slowly).

    Cons

Coddling of associates, leading to unfair practices, broken communication, and imbalanced work-life ratio.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus less on the bottom-line numbers and more on the actual procedures affecting the staff. Enforce policies which promote accountability in the workforce. Make sure new hires are actually qualified and willing to increase potential, rather than hiring simply to have a body to fill a role.

I have been working at Marriott full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Though I had a terrible time at this hotel, it was still a good learning experience that at least eventually helped me step up to a better quality hotel in the area. Unfortunately, that's the only pro I have for this place.

    Cons

Very clique-like atmosphere. Back-stabbing co-workers. People out to get you because they feel threatened for their jobs. Very poor training practices - management just trained for one day, then threw to the wolves. What more can I say? Everything was awful at this establishment.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

None. New managers just need to be hired here altogether. Horrible business practices.

    Cons

No recognition of work. Doesn't treat everyone equally based on race and ethnicity. Make you work likes slaves, will discard you like used TP when they don't need you,

I worked at Marriott part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

The new general manager was effective and taught well.

    Cons

The previous management got complacent in their jobs. When a customer tells you that your manager is looking down your shirt you know you have a bad work place environment. The person below him that was in charge of the front desk abused her ability to change the schedule and would get people to cover for her in the morning until she was feeling better after a long night and would show up half way through and send someone home instead. Quit after previous manager showed up drunk during the graveyard shift and security was nowhere to be found.

    Pros

employees are terrific and do their best in spite of being neglected in every way.

    Cons

sub-par in every way. There is nothing redeeming about this property.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Advice would not help, as Marriott does not own this property. It is owned by an investment company that is only interested in profit and nothing else.

    I worked at Marriott

    Pros

    Flexible working hours with autonomy.

    Cons

Poor senior management. Poor facilities for cubes, etc. Very strange chargeback system to budget for CPU usage. Too much reliance on H1-B workers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get back to valuing your IT department as an asset, not a budget drain.

I have been working at Marriott full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

The guest were awesome and a lot of them had great stories.

    Cons

My Manager had all of her family working there. At first she liked me and praised me all the time. After four months she fire me for "absolutely no reason". She had a family friend working there, her boyfriend stopped by and they hung out in the back while I did all the work. There was another time she went to hire a guy to replace me he got so drunk I had to advise him to go home. .... She also had her staff do a lot of profiling.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop playing favorites. There a reason a lot of companies don't want families working together

I worked at Marriott full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

My co-workers were fantastic people. They really do become your family. These people will become the glue that holds you together. Which is a big reason why I last about 4 years at this company. Good hotel discounts during certain times of year

    Cons

You will never get a raise...unless you get promoted...but YOU WILL never get promoted. They will hire someone outside the company that will not last 6 months. I asked for a promotion 3 times...given the same excuse EVERY TIME...but I was never given a chance. They will spout off to you about how someone is more educated and is better and more qualified THAN you. This will happen NO MATTER who you are. They do not value lasting reliable workers...and in the service industry...that is what is most important...YOUR EMPLOYEES...Than come the guests...because with no employees...you won't have anyone to serve your precious guests!

You will never be guaranteed a vacation. After 3 years of hard work. I was scorned for taking 6 days off to visit a sibling. Even if your fill out the required paperwork...be assured you will still be scheduled during the time you requested off! They will drill into your mind that you are there for the job and it all depends on business, but it's not realistic to spend your life worrying about a seasonal job that is only somewhat busy 5 to 6 months out of the year.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop pushing honest hard- working people to the side and give them raises and promotions.. This gets old after a while...and you're great employees WILL leave, I promise you that. Offer advancement whenever possible and keep the workers you know that are irreplaceable happy..You won't ever regret that..What you will regret is interview after interview...and turn over to turn over wasting your precious time and energy.
