    Pros

Employees offered support and opportunities to move up from your position. Good leadership. I always felt like my management cared.

    Cons

Lots of work, but it's worth it. I had a couple shifts of leadership, but they were voluntary terminations to move to other job opportunities.

    Advice to Management

At my location I had a lot of support, a little bit of more attention to direct supervisor would ease work load on employees.

    Pros

Great managerial leadership within the F&B department. Managers cater to employee attributes and apply where best suited, and further skill sets with hands-on training, advice, and demonstration. The support (benefit) system of Marriott is well-established and applicable world-wide.

    Cons

Specific to Laguna Cliffs Marriott in Dana Point, CA: Too much emphasis on lower quality at a higher price. In the resort environment, especially in Southern California, prices are elevated to roughly match the going rates of the area. Unfortunately, this specific Marriott undercuts most of its products/services while still charging rather excessive prices. This leads to occasional customer dissatisfaction, and reduced brand loyalty that is so renowned with Marriott customers.

    Advice to Management

Evaluate the products and services available, determine the level of markup, and then determine if the specific product and/or service's price is worthy of the quality level. If the gap is too large, then either up upgrade the product/service or lower the price to more accurately reflect its value.

    Pros

PTO, Benefits, and Room Rate Discounts are nice. The culture is centered on treating associates well so that they will in turn treat the guest well. There are numerous ways to grow your career if you are able to learn new skills and adapt to changes.

    Cons

The corporate work environment (HQ) does not always follow the same ideals as the hotel (Field) environment of treating associates well. By this I mean that the customer is not in view and the corporate structure can be disconnected from the business of hospitality. As with most companies post recession Marriott is trying to do more with less and many corporate workers are overwhelmed and can not keep pace with work demands.

    Advice to Management

Find better ways to appreciate associates for the great work they do rather than nit picking on work not accomplished based on unrealistic expectations.

    Pros

Very flexible work schedules, exciting feeling of change and inspiration in recent years, culture is incredibly welcoming and supportive

    Cons

Due to large size, some things take longer to get done due to too many check-points, etc.

    Advice to Management

Be on the lookout/have ears open to ideas for how to make internal processes more efficient. There is a feeling in some groups that the way they've been doing business for the past 20 years is still the best way, which is not necessarily the case.
