I have been working at Marriott full-time for more than a year

    Pros

It was a great way to understand what happens behind the scenes at a hotel

    Cons

Makes me never want to work for this company ever again

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat employees that went out on LOA better than you do. Don't cut their hours after they come back and than let them go for being out legally on LOA.

I have been working at Marriott full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

    Location, associates and good benefits

    Cons

Upper management's brash attitudes, upper management lack of humanity

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You need to come back to earth and start realizing.....Mr. Marriott Sr. built this company from the ground up by CARING for his associates and treating them like family. Marriott has gone down hill for the last 5 years ~ since Mr. Sorenson stepped in. So sad to see such a great company fall to pieces.

I have been working at Marriott full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Employee discount, meal options, that's about it

    Cons

Compensation, poor stability (laid off with another individual due to departmental cuts after three months of employment), no consideration for their employees

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try to be more considerate of your employees. Do not fill with false hopes and promises.

I have been working at Marriott full-time for less than a year

    Pros

People are nice and knowledgeable. Certain departments permit telecommuting. Health insurance is pretty decent.

    Cons

The PTO for new hires is laughable, as you start out with 12 days. Not sure how this company can be rated top by working mother magazine! As a working mother, 12 days are not enough. Then they also decided to get rid of the "Borrow Leave" policy. So you have to use all your prior year leave by June 28, only get 12 days, cannot borrow any leave, thus have no PTO available for when your kids are on summer break. I'll be leaving this company next year. There are better places out there. Marriott had the reputation of being a great employer, but that certainly will fade, as more of the older people retire and new people with the same crappy benefits are hired.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Who wants to be loyal to you, when you provide such horrible benefits? The pay is already below average, at least give people who you demand BA's, MA's, and CPA's from, a decent vacation policy.

I have been working at Marriott full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

It WAS a great company to work for. We all gladly worked ourselves to death for the company that held it's employees on a pedestal. They wanted to do things right and that is what we did. Past tense.

    Cons

Now that Mr Marriott is no longer at the helm that is all gone. The current management is risking driving the company into the ground, everything is being outsourced. I know this sound like a disgruntled employee rambling but it not just that (I am still an employee). We worked hard for this company and took great pride in it and now that is being just thrown away. The current direction puts the company at great risk as they will be just another hotel mgmt company except a lot more expensive. In the current era of "Insourcing" and after countless failed outsourcing attempts by other companies the current mgmt thinks they can do it better. I hope I'm wrong as I've put my heart and soul into this company but I have to say I'm concerned over Marriott's future.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

None. They are too far committed to turn back now. All we can hope for is the customers getting used to a lower level of service before they start jumping to other brands.

I worked at Marriott full-time for more than a year

    Pros

I now know how to score free nights at Marriott Properties

    Cons

TownePlace as a brand is not well know. Marriott is more concerned about making new and other brands so it can make more money. It doesn't put the necessary support and resources in the current brands to make them more well known by the public.

Marriott offers very little to no corporate support to the franchise companies.

They place rules and regulations on certain travel programs, but don't back up properties when they try to enforce the rules. They are more concerned with the money to be made.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Show more support to the properties and show that you care.

You only have 1 week for employee appreciation and it's more for you to explain what you are doing to make yourselves more money. Woah! wait you actually give us a print out for our employees that says Employee Appreciation.

I have been working at Marriott full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Good vacation, usually 5 weeks now it is reduced to 3 weeks for new employees

    Cons

Bad management, Upper level is mostly outdated people who have been in the company for 20-25 people. They don't have knowledge about project management or anything.
Company says takecare as their slogan but it is opposite of that.
Compensation wise they don't care about employees below senior systems analyst level thats why they don't have bonuses
    Bonuses only for upper management
Very cunning incentives like 401K match is made only after september of next year for current year.

I have been working at Marriott full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    Employee benefits. Friendly (non-management) staff.

    Cons

    Department restructuring.
    Outsourcing of majority of positions.
Mr. Marriott's ideals of "Treat the employees well, and business will thrive" has been thrown out the window since Sorenson has take the role of CEO.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I have been working at Marriott for less than a year

    Pros

The health insurance is good if they ever give you full time. They also have a lot of free food and employee appreocation days with a variety of food.

    Cons

Very low pay started at eight dollars and to pay high union dues. I worked at the starbucks stand and it was like working at a snooty mcdonalds

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay attension do not just stand in front of the tv and clean so mold does not grow in food production areas. If you are going to have a union provide us with representation please!

    I worked at Marriott full-time

    Pros

Marriott discount... Maybe some free food. Thats pretty much it.

    Cons

This is a very typical starter position job. That said even for your typical starter position this one is strikingly bad. Mismanaged, understaffed, apathetic... and its not a corporate hotel so there will be no corporate benefits. There are other hotels in the area. If you want to be in hospitality choose from those. This one needs a rehaul. The brand is made to look like the typical "corporate family" deal, but the morale says something different.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You can give it, but it will be lost within chains of command or on the deaf ears of investing pools (or corporate). There is no followthrough at this place, only punishment and memos.
