I worked at Marriott as an intern for less than a year

    Pros

learned how not to be a manager

    Cons

    long hours with no breaks
manager that didn't speak English well
assigned to menial tasks for hours at a time

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't treat interns as just cheap, disposable summer labor. It would have been nice to know you cared about my training and advancement.

I worked at Marriott as an intern for less than a year

    Pros

Gives me something to talk about in future interview

    Cons

-worked endless hours (several 19 hour shifts)
    -No respect from management
-Several times it seemed like Management didn't even know how to do their job
-Would never get breaks for meal times and would often go full days without eating
-My time card and pay stubs were often altered and there were several times I didn't get paid for overtime
-All around a horrible company who treats their employees like dogs. Definitely do not live up to their philosophy

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take the time to actually listen to your employees instead of constantly yelling at them. What they have to say is important and how you treat them reflects back on your customer/guest service

I worked at Marriott full-time for less than a year

    Pros

    There are seriously NONE..AT ALL!!

    Cons

This place seriously has the WORSE management EVER. Its managed by SSN Hotels and they are just horrible. They care NOTHING about their employees or guest. This place had so much potential when it first opened in Feb 2012 but since then it has went DOWN hill. I mean they been through THREE General Managers...that should tell you ALOT rite there!! Anyone with common sense has already LEFT this place or is trying to leave. I was one of the ones that started from the start and I wanted to be loyal to the company and stick it out....but after i realized that they didnt care about their employees or guest than I left to go work an an ACTUAL Marriott hotel..not another franchised hotel...and let me tell you their is a BIG difference... (Now this review ISNT about Marriott because I have worked for Marriott for many years and I LOVE working for Marriott...This review is about SSN Hotels.) They dont care about anyone but themselves...Mr. Marriott would prolly be rolling over in his grave if he knew how poorly this hotel is ran and how the empolyees and guests are treated because Marriott has such high standards for their employees and their brand...and THIS hotel is not living up to either. Its NOT up to Marriott Standards at all. If they dont get NEW management soon then Im pretty sure its gonna get shut down. Its way too many hotels in the King of Prussia area for anyone to have to stay or even WORK at this one. My advice is if you want to work for Marriott DONT choose THIS hotel...choose an actual Marriott hotel...not a franchise. All though I have worked for other Marriott Franchise hotels and they were not AS BAD as SSN Hotels..but its still NOTHING like ACTUALLY working for MARRIOTT!!!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

GET NEW MANAGEMENT..STARTING WITH THE OWNERS!!!

I worked at Marriott full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Meeting guest that have great jobs that can help you

    Cons

    Schedule
Lack of Education and experience in Upper Management
    He say, she say environment
    Elementary and basic

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire those that can hire themselves. If they dont have extensive experience and solid knowledge they might want to rethink the applicant. I know its a service industry and you tend to always hire from within BUT come on your a global brand, Marriot cheapens its brand by promoting individuals with no relative work experience and no education. Its like throwing the ball to the water boy at the tail end of the game and antipating a winning shot. Epic Fail.

    I worked at Marriott

    Pros

Convenient to apt/ school, pay was decent, friendly atmosphere at times, flexible schedules, discount packaging on rooms, and very college friendly.

    Cons

The cons were: a very disorganized franchise in downtown Richmond, managers were unfocused and not goal oriented, poor leadership, little communication from managers, quitters, and unprofessional employer-employee relationships

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Communicating effectively is very crucial to an employer's longevity; stop focusing on personal problems and behave in a professional way when you are in a professional setting!

    I worked at Marriott

    Pros

The paycheck. In this economy take what you can get!

    Cons

The staff in the restaurant (salt water grill & grand dining room) are unprofessional, and unfriendly and mean to new employees. The employees have to walk half a mile from the parking lot to job site twice a day everyday. The work is backbreaking and if you get hurt too bad, youre done!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The management in the Salt Water Grill, and Grand Dining Room dont take negative feedback seriously. During daily meetings the negative GSS was a joke to them. Someone complains and fills out a complaint card that person is "crazy" or a "nag" because we are the best hotel- number 1 as a resort and number 9 in the world, bla bla bla. TAKE NEGATIVE FEEDBACK AND LEARN FROM IT!

Former Employee - Front Desk Clerk in Woodbridge, NJ

    I worked at Marriott

    Pros

Location is usually not overwhelmingly busy all the time.
You get a discount to stay in any Marriott Hotel, usually 35+tax at most locations

    Cons

The lowest pay you can get compared to other front desk positions in other locations
No overtime pay, even though mgmt expect you to work extra hours
Owner and management expect you to go above and beyond w/o any recognition or reward
Mgmt expect you to preform other duties than what you got hired for w/o extra pay b/c they are under staffed
Location is surrounded by Junk Yards

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

treat your employees better. pay overtime for workers who deserve it .when you make last minute schedule changes, inform the employee about the changes and don't be surprised if they don't show up to work when you don't let them know about the schedule change. Improve communication between employees

I have been working at Marriott

    Pros

good opportunity for those who seek minimum experience in the working industry. has great benefits for employees, and somewhat of a notion for advancement on some Marriott properties

    Cons

The upper management treat the employees like the don't exist, like they do not matter, and like they are ONLY hourly employees. They hire managers with no experience, so the structure is completely bad from the top to the bottom

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The leadership is provided by people who are inexperienced and have no idea how to run a business. Hire quality people, who are qualified to complete a job rather than someone who can satisfactory can complete the job. experience should be required for necessary positions.
