Great people! Workload issues. Clearly value external over internal candidates

    Insurance Broker (Former Employee)

ProsGreat benefits, awesome health plan, smart, fun co-workers, many opportunities to learn subject matter very well

ConsValue external candidates over internal candidates, everyone is overworked and stressed, you can only get the salary for your peer-group if you threaten to leave, poor performers are not fired, just starved out.

Advice to Senior ManagementStop trying to 100% de-risk your business. It sends a message to clients that you aren't willing to stand by your work and puts you in a vulnerable position. Clients will start to think "Gee, if I am constantly being told I have to check my broker's work, why shouldn't an online quote service do this same thing?? I thought I was paying for expertise??"

Stop burning out your best people, they are the product you are selling.

Give some actual power to give promotions, make compensation decisions, and fire people etc. to office heads, zone leaders, or even managers. Its very clear their hands are 100% tied to do right by their best people.

Very satisfied with my job, then it went offshore

    Anonymous (Current Employee)

ProsGreat benefits, plenty of PTO, good salary (except raises) no micro management, great teamwork and nice office.

ConsMy position was "eliminated". In reality it went to India. Job is paperless so the only thing the company was looking to do was save a few bucks in wages. A company with 14+ billion revenue would rather have cheap labor than keep good loyal employees. I have seen so many good employees laid off. I was hoping to retire from Marsh in a few years. Now I am looking for another job.

Advice to Senior ManagementValue your employees for what they know and not how cheap they can be paid. The end result will be clients will go elsewhere costing the company more.

    Great company and great culture

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee) Brooklyn Park, MN

ProsIt is an environment where new ideas are encouraged and considered. They truly value their employees.

ConsI had a manager that was tough to work for and had a bad reputation in the organization. However this is not the case with most everyone else.

    Be patient

Placement Specialist (Current Employee) San Francisco, CA

ProsLargest broker in the world. Segmented groups allow for greater focus and expertise. The majority of employees have positive attitudes and enjoy what they do. Numerous employees that left the firm have come back proving that the grass isn't always greener.

ConsCorporate structure can be slow at times. Not necessarily a con, but you will need to be patient to see large pay increase.

Stable company with good opportunities for growth.

Financial Analyst (Former Employee) New York, NY

ProsGreat leadership. The location and overall benefit package is great. Dan Glaser has done a great job of turning this company around.

ConsThe performance review process needs to be improved. Hard to determine how colleague progress is being measured. There needs to be more objectivity in evaluating performance.

Advice to Senior ManagementSome key leaders are out of touch.

    Great Place to Grow

    Vice President (Former Employee)

ProsWorked at Marsh within an IT leadership position and found it very rewarding to be a part of a team that wanted to make a difference. The people and senior leaders at Marsh are very organized and genuinely care about the internal and external impacts of decisions made. Huge opportunity for growth within a large corporation.

ConsAnalysis Paralysis. The teams need to get out of their own way so tasks can get finished. Death by meeting also marred the experience a bit. Process perfection was touted even at the expense of project completion which is not good.

Advice to Senior ManagementSometimes you need to step aside and let your leaders lead. Micromanagement does not have a place when there is so much work to be done.

    Polished environment

Information Technology (Former Employee) New York, NY

ProsGreat atmosphere, polished environment, overall great place for your next career move. I would recommend more training for current roles so employees after several years do not become more stagnated.

ConsAfter several years you can become stagnated if you do not seek other career avenues within the company.

Advice to Senior ManagementI would say more training to develop skills so the employee can expand his role and be a better contributor. Have senior management build more communication avenues to better understand the role there employees need to fulfill there job expectations.

    Very Good company

    Manager (Current Employee) Atlanta, GA

ProsIt has Global Oppertunities and various resorces.

ConsCompany is too big, felt that there is big black hole.

Advice to Senior ManagementPlease think well and deep when you want to make a change.
