I have been working at Marsh & McLennan Companies full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Great CEO, good benefits, reasonable work life balance. High collaboration across departments. Some of the operating companies increasingly reward talent.

    Cons

Corporate is full of politicians, who don't care about talent. Too many empty suits in important positions in Finance and HR.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Review the heads of all functions at corporate and get rid of the clueless ones. Base assessment of employees on achievement of outcomes, and not apearances.

    Pros

Great opportunities to do technical work

    Cons

    No strategic direction and vision

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep the direction set from previous management and build on top of it, rather than reinventing the wheel

    Pros

Good compensation and benefits. You are working for an industry leader. My managers were quality people.

    Cons

Unfortunately, Scrooges in New York looked over the numbers and decided that a large group needed to go to meet the "numbers." This seems to happen regularly at Marsh.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus on stability and growth. You have great people, great brand and the opportunity to remain a leader. But, continued downsizing and changes in strategy are going to wear down the employees.

    Pros

This is a great company to work for if you're in the business of selling insurance.

    Cons

If you work for one of the non-insurance related practices, you might feel like the red-headed step-child.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep your opinions on gay, lesbian and transgender issues to yourselves.

I worked at Marsh & McLennan Companies full-time

    Pros

Provided a valuable service to clients; worked among esteemed colleagues; gained valuable on-the-job experience

    Cons

Poor communication from management to subordinates; no room for career advancement

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I would have suggested that communication is vital in moving things forward and that listening to input and ideas from employees can actually add value to the growth of an organization

Ok job if you don't mind doing the same exact thing everyday

I have been working at Marsh & McLennan Companies full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Good benefits, 401k, easy job, quarterly bonus if you meet your numbers. If you like a routine schedule and don't mind doing the same thing every day with little change, then this is the job for you.

    Cons

Monotonous, not very exciting. There is opportunity to advance to team lead and supervisor positions and to other departments within the Austin area but if you want to move into broker positions or other avenues of insurance you'll have to be willing to move.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give more of an incentive to do well and work harder, outside of a quarterly bonus. Have group outings and fun team building activities outside of work. This is a multibillion dollar company, you can probably afford to pay this department a little bit more.
