    Pros

I think this is a great company for people just out of college looking to build their resume.

    Cons

The benefits are not good- very few investment (and not good) choices for their 401k and the co-pays and costs for the health benefits are high. Do not take the company stock- it's a dog. The attitudes, especially in managemant are horrible- people are very rude here. Politeness and respect are not encouraged. People don't say please, thank you, or excuse me or hold doors. The dress code is lax to say the least. I guess once you get outside of Boston the attitudes change- that's what I have seen anyway. The bonus structure might be getting better this year. Right now it is based on favoritism and no one even denies that in management.

    Advice to Management

Your employees and your middle level managers follow by example. If you walk around with yor nose in the air- so will they. If you are impolite to those you don't know- they will be as well. Treat your employees like they are valuable- not workhorses and expendable. Generate a culture of loyalty. Outsourcing to India and then making the employees train the people in India who are taking their jobs does not generate loyalty. Think about it.

    Pros

    Excellent resources. Talented, knowlegable staff.

    Cons

Senior management is like a bunch of whores, living off the talent and labor of others. They are highly compensated for doing what? Running the company deeper into the ground. They do not respect their workforce and their attitude shows in everything they do.

    Advice to Management

Share the wealth. Get feedback from the frontlines before wasting time and money on another half-assed initiative.

    Pros

Well known throughout the insurance industry and working with many large important companies. Work employees hard and gives us a good work ethic. Great comradely amoung employees with each other and has a great support network.

    Cons

Marsh has not made a profit in years. The new Marsh CEO is set to start another round of employment cuts (as he recently mentioned he knows exactly what the profit margin is going to be in 2010 and the only way to get there is an Increase in Revenue or a Cut in "Expenses")...already cut our tuition program significantly!

    Advice to Management

Cut fat at the top, as 3% raises cant go on forever...

    Pros

Work/life balance is good, at 5 o'clock everyone is gone. Friendly environment. Up to you if want to consider these as pros

    Cons

Not achieving good results is not a problem, there is no accountability. No focus on training, development on services and HR. Extremely poor senior management (good sales people are put in charge as managers).

    Advice to Management

Value human resources and define accountability. Moreover set up some sort of training for employees.

  7. A culture of revolving leadership. They never compensate for they work you give them.

    Pros

Up until this year benefits were above average. Some of the technology team are driven and well supported. It really depends on you immediate boos.

    Cons

In 8 years I have had a max of 2% raise every year. Salaries are below par and there is no training or room for advancement. Leadership lives in NYC or London in big towers. They are insular and out of touch with their employees. Mercer, the 'HR' company is a joke. Marsh is full of wannabes. Guy Carpenter is full or bloated egos. Oliver Wyman is full of egos that might give Guy Carpenter are run for it money. If your LGBT you'll never get fired for any drama. Discriminates against people who are not politically correct.

    Advice to Management

Stop the drive to the bottom and stop outsourcing your staff to India.

    Pros

    - Working with immedatiate team members is positive
    - Great flexibility with vacation - except for month end
    -Christmas gatherings

    Cons

    - Very little room for growth for employees at the lower end of the scale.
    - HUGE communication gap among colleagues.
    - Some employees tend to pawn off the work onto other colleagues and fear change and do not embrace new business processes. Senior veterans who have been with the company for ages cannot think outside the box and thus tend to like a lot of hand holding.

    Advice to Management

-Give credit where credit is due. The company boasts about further learning and career development but management needs to reinforce this and look out for every employee under their wing. This should not be limited to individuals with senior roles.
-Improve communication within deparments and make sure the message conveyed is uniform.
-Consider revising the compensation matrix for all departments. Upper management tend to get bigger pay increases and bonuses, while the reamining employees get a 1% raise. In today's economy, the base salary for junior roles are well under the poverty line which is unfair. Take home pay amounts to nothing.
    - Look past the politics and power trip. Employees need to get the work done right to make the environment a good workplace for everyone.

    Pros

Senior roles get a good bonus and a reasonable salary - but they get their pound of flesh

    Cons

Totally relentless hard work - if you're in IT
Globalisation is talked about a lot but it is a one way process from these to the rest of the world. No other opinions count.

    Advice to Management

Walk the talk with work life balance. - it doesn't exist!
Stop working your staff into the ground.

    Pros

They offer a above average month bonus plus different benefits like HMO, Life Insurance etc
Great way to start your career in the insurance/broker industry as it is a well known global brand. Workplace is good especially if you are considering the office and people in it.

    Cons

Pretty low starting salary in comparison to the workload you receive.
Not enough training for their R&F employees to grow in the business and possibly become better assets to the company. Low raise after a strong contribution year appraisal from management.

    Advice to Management

I believe if management should try to train their R&F employees to motivate them in loving their job, as they are shown importance thru adequate salary, benefits and training. Also they should give their current employees better chance to step up the corporate ladder instead of looking to hire people outside the organization. This will boost employee morale and loyalty.
