    It wasn't the best.

    Sales Associate/Cashier (Current Employee)
    Deerfield Beach, FL

ProsSeveral of the managers were sympathetic and really helped me understand what it meant to be a part of retail. The other employees were friendly.

ConsOne manager in particular was really harsh on the other employees and criticized/favored employees based on looks. While some employees may take the extra time out of whatever they're doing to help you there's still some that will purposely ignore you, generally rude.

Advice to Senior ManagementYou should pay more for the hard work that the associates do and for all they deal with.

Typical part time, but good company

    Retail Sales Associate (Current Employee)
    Baltimore, MD

ProsMy favorite part of Marshalls is their leniency with time-off requests. As long as you give two weeks notice, they almost always approve vacations and days off. You can name your own availability and the managers try to respect that we have lives to live besides work. They give a LOT of incentives if you get credit card apps; many of my Marshalls purchases have been with store gift cards for reaching a goal and they run contests to further drive employees to do their best. They also have opportunities to continue working for the company, such as the Gap Program for recent college graduates to train them to become assistant managers around the US. Great training for those who don't have much retail experience but are good with people.

ConsThey push for credit card apps so if you feel uncomfortable doing so, this isn't the job for you. Pay is minimum wage to start out with, and only increases $.50 at best each year. Most job opportunities are part time, and part time employees can only work 32 hours tops and don't get benefits, paid time off, etc.

Advice to Senior ManagementThe incentives are great, but I would consider rewarding more valued employees with more than a measly $.50. I know retail is slow to grow so small changes are necessary, but I would at least consider a one year bonus raise to stay competitive with other places that start out at $8.50.
