    I worked at Marten Transport

    Pros

I cannot think of a single pro

    Cons

"Management" is reactive and fosters an unhealthy environment of blame. Senior people bully and get off on intimidating, make impulsive business decisions without a desire to understand the situation or consequences of their mandates. They frequently ILLEGALLY threaten to withhold employees' pay. They make promises with no intent to follow through, bamboozling naive employees into doing more with expectations of promotions and/or raises that will never come.

Marten Transport is a badly managed company that is destined for failure.

    Pros

great job if you need something very short term.

    Cons

INDY terminal has mechanics selling drugs to drivers, sleeping under trucks and guys who couldn't tell you what a dip stick is doing tractor inspections.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop firing the people that know what they are doing and get rid of the ones that don't just cause they are your buddy.

I worked at Marten Transport full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

I worked for Marten 1 1/2 year. Marten is a very safe company when it comes to equipment, not when it comes to driver safety. Marten drivers are public safety nightmare waiting to happen,

    Cons

My problems with marten was breaking the law. They ask you to log off duty when loading and unloading and the law says all loading and unloading are to be on duty not driving. They want every minute of your time. they want you to sleep on demand so you are driving when you are sleepy and awake when you supposed to be asleep, and you wander why so many drivers have sleep apnea. They want you to sleep at there customer some who don't even have bathrooms for the driver to used because they are closed. Every driver has a system to get the sleep he or she need for operating safety. You can't do this at marten because the drivers managers own you. I think marten operation is a imminent hazard to public safety and the Wisconsin D.O.T and F.M.C.S.A need to take a closer look at this company electronic logs.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take another look at the law and stop pushing drivers to the limit. May I suggest an electronic survey of all drivers over the Qualcomm. Ask them do they think the company push them to the limit of unsafely operating there equipment when it comes to sleep, showers, eating, and movement. YES or NO. You'll be surprised of the answers, I was!

Not a good company - unreliable, not honest in their dealings with drivers.

I worked at Marten Transport full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

They have the miles to keep drivers moving.

    Cons

    1. Bait and switch pay scale - their pay scale is 3 cents less than advertised, and they tell you you actually get paid more because of the per diem issue. 2. They will automatically sign you up for benefits such as 401K, that you have to pay for, without your consent. 3. They have hidden policies that they will automatically fire you for, or force you to quit. If they fire you, they will put a negative entry on your DAC report. If you quit within the first 6 months, they will charge you for orientation costs. I was forced to quit without notice or review (a driver with a great driving record and over 30 years experience) before my 6 months due to a bogus policy or they would have fired me with a negative report that would have ended my driving career. This is provable information.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get rid of hidden, stringent policies that force good drivers from your company. Be honest and straight with your drivers - THEY are what make your company!

I worked at Marten Transport full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

The upscale of this Company is they did have an orientation.

    Cons

They do not pay you for your miles you drive. Operation in one of their slow trucks is worst than Swift and you really need to look at the abilities to get from pick up to delivery with this slow moving truck.
They will stab you in your back when you do a great job after you terminate.
You have to spend a lot of time sitting waiting to load and deliver another drivers freight due to the driver running out of hours trying to get a load that he sat all day on waiting.
Lies by dispatchers, and treated like you are in a human trafficking event and you are that person.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Fire most of your management and dispatchers, start over again or just shut down as you are better off not messing with other peoples lives then making bad DAC reports so they have problems being hired by another human trafficking company. Shame on you! Bad Company!

    Pros

    Laidback dresscode and informal atmosphere

    Cons

No formal training, no support from management, incredibly high turnover of employees, an environment requiring you to constantly throw other people under the bus to protect yourself, there was no teamwork

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take a good hard look at how your actions are affecting your turnover rate of employees. Make the time to train the new help.

I have been working at Marten Transport

    Pros

Good equipment. Like my fleet manager. Pay is ok.

    Cons

Changes. Per diem. Reduced hometime. Sliding pay scale. Truck won't idle if apu quits. Short hauls w/ lots of dock time and low miles.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Leave the hometime the way it was. Best reason to stay here was that. Get rid of per diem. Less propaganda.
