    Could be better

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsBonus at end of year. My boss was a good guy, but his bosses where not.

ConsPay is not where it should be for technicians and other shop personnel. They have cameras all over their properties to make sure no one is "doing anything bad". If someone is standing for too long (2 minutes), the foreman gets a call and tells him to get the tech to get moving. People getting terminated without any warnings when others get 3 warnings. Open all holidays.

Advice to Senior ManagementYou need to fix this, that is why shop personnel are unhappy with Marten. It starts at the top. I can name one person specifically, but will not.

    Dispatchers are nouveau slave owners

    OTR Regional Driver (Current Employee)

ProsPaid detention but you have to fight for it. Good benefits. Great rigs. Nice loads. Qualcomm works. Mechanics suck. Sorry :-/

ConsDispatch-"You have to work this weekend" me-"I can't I am going out of town with my family" d-"you have work to do" m-"I have earned my time off" d- "you will lose your truck" m-"do what you have to do" later found out dispatcher had taken a 4 day weekend.

A very stressful environment. A company more interested in its problems than the solutions.

    Fleet Manager (Current Employee)
    Carlisle, PA

ProsYou learn how to take your job too seriously. You learn how to fire employees for nothing.

ConsHorrible at taking care of their employees.

Advice to Senior ManagementTake care of your office employees as much as the drivers.

    bitter sweet, heart breaking

    OTR Regional Driver (Former Employee)
    DeSoto, TX

Prosall the staff at Desoto terminal

ConsI was happy as a pig in new mud for 1 1/2 years at marten. no service failures, no problems. . was fired after 2 minor backing incidents with no notice and after being led to believe that a chewing out was the end of it. although I admit I was wrong and at fault I think I was treated over the top harshly.

Advice to Senior Managementremember your dealing with peoples ( that's people as in human not numbers on a employee list) lively hood.

former 4 year driver out of ontario,ca.

    Western Fleet Driver (Former Employee)
    Ontario, CA

ProsTruck and trailers are in decent shape.

ConsHometime could be better. Western regional is two weeks on and 2days off. Alot of overnite driving and middle of the night deliveries. The terminal in Ontario,ca. is a real cluster, makeing it hard to find a place to park your truck or your car. A real pain to get in and out of because it's so small.

Advice to Senior ManagementGet a decent terminal in Ontario.

Got too deep in the rabbit hole and didn't like it.

    Fleet Manager (Former Employee)

ProsCasual Dress, Decent Salary, Some outstanding drivers, operations staff working with you.

ConsStress, Supervisors and Coworkers chewing tobacco on the job, Poor Work Facility/ Location, Will rush you up higher duties on same pay. Accusations of Racism/ Cruelty from Drivers when the preplan just isn't there. Wouldn't recommend unless you specifically want to be in the Transportation Business.

Advice to Senior ManagementFind solutions to solve the problems that affect drivers instead of Sugarcoating. Its unnerving how much skill there is in manipulating drivers to complacency. claims are made that the industry has a shortage of drivers, while fleet managers get daily complaints about not having enough work.

Average weekly miles are world 1800 miles for seven days working out of Chester VA terminal.

    Driver (Current Employee)

ProsBenefits , the managers, nice equipment, easy company to work for.

ConsNot enough miles and pore planning by the load planners . If the drivers is not making enough money the company is not either. If it was on a graph , high pay would equal high revenue.

Advice to Senior ManagementIf your driver managers are going to manage the driver, they need better controll of routing the driver to utilize there time and equipment. I have noticed my driver manager telling me after a week on the road and 1800 miles later that they have to go by what the planners are giving them for me. The planner has no idea my situation , my milage status and apparently no incentive to keep a driver moving and not sitting one day and then driving the next. I had 8 day on this pay period with a total of 1875 Hub miles on the tractor. I don't think as a driver I need to keep having to complain about compensation of pay for one week on the road and doing everything I am suppose to do. You should have a guarentee each week and if the planners cannot do there jobs , let it count against them . Thanks for reading this . I like marten but hate the pay.

Not enough freight to make a living, equipment was not in the best shape, they do not counsel you on your performance

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsI cannot say that they are any better than the next guy. They have excellent lay over pay, and if there were more freight you could probably make a living. My dispatcher was a great guy, green but a good guy.

ConsToo much time in between loads, poor freight availability, and they possibly hire too many drivers so they have no problem letting people go, even in situations that cannot be avoided.

Advice to Senior ManagementI believe that this company is too quick to fire people. Maybe the powers that be should take into consideration that in inclement weather even the most seasoned drivers will have small incidents that are weather related.
