    ProsI was able to start a career with relatively little related experience with a team of great employees and friendly drivers.

    ConsLots of pressure, disorganization, mismanagement from above and unwarranted big egos. I often felt like I was being scolded by my father, rather than coached and treated like an adult.

    Advice to Senior ManagementThe better you treat your employees, the more you'll get from them and the more loyal they'll be.

    Definitely NOT the same company it was when I started.

    ProsGood equipment, like the APU's & inverters that are installed on trucks.

    ConsCompany takes a "one size fits all" approach to dealing with drivers. Constant repeated nagging messages over the Qualcomm that get tuned out. Dispatches that don't have all required info such as temperature info & unclear pick up info (pick up numbers).

    Advice to Senior ManagementTell customer service reps to get complete information (temp. requirements for example) for loads. STOP with the nagging, intelligence-insulting qualcomm messages. PLEASE turn off the 10 hour limit on APU/heat/AC usage (it's very annoying to be woken up in the middle of the night freezing or sweating because the climate control shuts off while we're asleep).

    Prosthey have decent equipment with all the bells and whistles, laid back attitude, very little lay over time and decent bonuses

    Consthey have lousy planners, constantly late loading then you have to run like an idiot. lousy support--good luck trying to contact road service--forced per diem--saving them about $.03 a mile

    actually, it was very good.

    Proschecks didn't bounce. APU on each truck as well as a inverter. automatic detention pay on each stop. showers in most of the terminals. a lot of work.good customers and some still show respect for company.very high on safety.

    Consoff on weekends only.minimum work time is 2 weeks on and 2 days off.must give 2 weeks notice for off time and its starts on ether Friday or Saturday morning.

    Good company, but there is a disconnect between managment and training on there floor.

    ProsVery intimate work environment for a large company. Impressed with the management team.

    ConsLike everywhere else, there is less and less concern for employees and more concern for the bottom line. Great management team with good ideas, but team leaders and "mentors" responsible for training really have little experience with training. In their defense, they are expected to carry out their own normal responsibilities AND train new employees. They are spread very thin. It is a high pressure job which involves managing what are often times less than desirable employees.

    Advice to Senior ManagementImplement a "real" training program for new operations employees. Mentors and team leaders need "training" on training! Just because and employee is good at their job doesn't mean they have the skill set to train others.

    Prosgood trucks, steady work, no slip seating, take trucks home on home time, great benefits, great Insurance. some of the people will really work hard for you.

    ConsSliding pay scale is hard to understand., A driver never really knows what they are making on a run. Dispatchers never answering the phone or return a phone call, Going to the shop and sitting for hours and days to get your truck worked on and receiving no pay for sitting. And getting any layover pay takes the grace of god to get.

    Advice to Senior Managementwork with the drivers. because they are only human. Treat us like we are needed there and not just a number. Respect our home time and don't be calling us on our days off. We don't bother you when you are off. Make the fuel books alot like the old ones they were easier to read. and most of all remember if it was not for us drivers none of you would have a job.

    Would be wonderful if there were more layover or detention when planners schedule TOO much time on a load.

    Truck Driver (Current Employee)

    ProsMARTEN has a wonderful benefit package. They have quality top of the line trks{at least the PETERBILT 387 is}. And i guess the pay is comparable to the other large companies.
    Also, unlike a lot of the other companies that EXPECT you to chain in snow & ice,
    marten is the opposite. "Chains required, Shut Down." Feel unsafe driving? Shut Down.

    ConsMARTEN does not "PAY" for experience. By that I mEAN A 25 Yr veteran getting hired on for the same pay rate as a fresh out school rookie. That just seems wrong, somehow.
    You get hired on Southest Regional, supposed to get home every wknd only to be told later that you can only get home every OTHER wknd.

    Advice to Senior ManagementSome of the "Fleet Managers" or "Dispatch" need to learn to trust their drvrs when said drvr tells them he/she they can't deliver a certain load in the time alloted to do it. They also need to stop EXPECTING a drvr to roll with an overloaded{in any way} trlr. Be it over on the drives, tandems or overgrossed. Even though MARTEN says they would pay the fine & tkt , if one was issued , it would still go against the drvr on this new CSA 2010.
    Also, with the company having such nice looking trks, it would be good if Randy Marten would see fit to allow each trk to get washed at a trk wash at least ONCE a month. Not all drvrs have time when they go to a terminal to take time to wash their trk. All he would have to do is set up an account with one of the widespread TRK WASHES in the nation & each trk go in once a month to get washed. 20 minutes versus a couple of hours for a nice clean, shiny AWESOME looking ride to be PROUD of. Or even if the company would reimburse for a TRK WASH once a month would be good, too!

    Truck Driver (Current Employee)

    ProsGood equipment. Well maintained. Pretty good about getting you home on time. Have taken extra time off when I've needed it. Decent insurance. Average miles and pay.

    ConsForced per diem. Sliding pay scale based on length of run. Policy on where you can park your truck while on home time.

    Advice to Senior ManagementThink employees should have a choice as to weather or not they get paid per diem. Think the sliding pay scale should be done away with. Should get paid you pay rate period end.

    satisfying for the most part.

    Proshaving apu's on the trucks so we don't have to idle, not having to chain up in the winter when chains are required. the equipment is constantly being upgraded, the layover pay

    Consbeing paid per diem when it should be the drivers choice, being governed at 65 , electronic logging, not getting home ontime for time off, all the short haul freight
