I worked at Marvell Technology full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Nice food provided and smart hard working engineers around you.

    Cons

Top management has no ideas what they're doing but they decided every single direction.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The top management there might be the worst in the chip industry - they should have been replaced by professional.

I have been working at Marvell Technology full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Nice cafetaria and gym. And if you work in established group (not in speculative group working on product with no customers), then it's a very safe house. You will find worst engineer in your life in this group but somehow always survive and keeps working at Marvell for many years.

    Cons

No transparency from management. In a recent case, the bonus was small because management said that company's target was not met. However, the management also said that they don't know what the target was. And promotion seems to be random. Some average-performing people got promoted, and some good-performing people just don't get promoted.
In conclusion, only work here as your last choice or you're lazy to move to other company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The company's management is so bad that any advice to management is of no use.

    Pros

Good Cafeteria, some real good collegues

    Cons

VP is clueless. Direct manager has zero technical experience. nepotism at its best. Bad management, limited growth, average pay, no employee appreciation.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get real good people to get the work done. Upgrade your management. Appreciate engineers.

I have been working at Marvell Technology full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Food is cheap, some people are nice.

    Cons

I've been told "It's not your place" when discussing potential positive changes to processes by direct manager.
Direct manager has zero training, expect to be offended regularly.
People get fired for other people's mistakes.
Sales team has zero accountability so everyone else has to do their work.
Work 3 jobs, they pay the price of one.
Watched Weili throw her jacket at a support staffer, expecting them to hang it up.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please stop with the blatant nepotism. And learn what a real business model looks like, no one could understand the concentric circle displayed at the last meeting.

I have been working at Marvell Technology full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

    good cafeteria, good gym facilities
    still get paid

    Cons

questionable ethics and hiring practices; just look at all of the criminal insider-trading news that mentions this company. look at the outstanding patent lawsuits. look at the how many cfos there have been in the last ten years, and the current one still has "interim" status. look at the board of directors: ever heard of any of these people?

some decently nice and intelligent people to work with, but offset by some pretty incompetent ones along with their managers and executives.

hard to have much pride working for a place like this.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

it is not about the company and the employees, it is all about the founders and executives. many good companies become that way by hiring people smarter than you are, but no one hired here can be smarter than the executives.

I have been working at Marvell Technology full-time

    Pros

You can make good friends with the people in the trenches. Like in combat, you bond with your compatriots.

    Cons

Management gives you impossible tasks and tell you to get it done and that is it all. They then set up roadblocks. If it gets done despite their efforts, they get the credit, and you get nothing.

Upper management just does what it wants and bullies you and forces you to follow their top down decision without caring much about the people doing the work or their inputs.

Lack of trust in upper management.

If you care about your job or your sense of professionalism, your work life balance is awful.

    No career growth.

Knowledge is hard to get so technical growth is hard.

Company is very tight with money, but will spend on the things that don't really help.

If you are not upper management, it is hard to get any respect or cooperation and they will not care what you say or feel.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't treat employees like they don't know what is going on or that they are a dime a dozen. You will just get a bunch of yes men and hand puppets, and political players. That is what they seem to value since that is who they seem to promote and reward the most.

I have been working at Marvell Technology full-time

    Pros

If you are in the right team, you can seek solace in working with good people.
    Decent cafeteria
    Decent campus
Some groups working on awesome cutting edge stuff.

    Cons

Managers have no power. Everything comes from the top.
    CEO has his favorites.
    Lateral movement is not encouraged/allowed
    Ultimate penny pinchers
WIll make you work like hell and pay peanuts. No raises either. Sweatshop mentality.
    The stock sucks

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Resign and let pros manage the company. Even after a buy back the stock has tanked. It is not because people are not working harder. You are making the wrong decisions. Market share does not equal profitability.

I worked at Marvell Technology full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Good food, cheap cafeteria. Free on-site gym. Benefits are pretty good.

    Cons

-Company culture is awful. Everyone keeps to themselves - people weren't necessarily unfriendly, but not friendly, either. There is NO diversity at all (just spend a minute in the cafeteria during lunchtime, and you will understand).
-There is a lot of fighting/politics between groups and it often felt like we were working for different companies, and not on one team. Extremely frustrating.
-People are resistant to change/improving necessary process, even though current systems/tools/processes are severely outdated and hamper the company's efficiency.
-Executive management only cares about themselves (husband-wife team) and how to make themselves richer. Focus is only on engineering instead of running a real business.
-Company outlook is not great, and they're in the middle of a huge lawsuit with Carnegie Mellon. Raises/bonuses have been a pittance because company has not been doing well.
    -No career growth at all.
-Because management is so paranoid of headhunters, there is no published org chart, which makes cross functional roles very difficult because you don't know who works for what. It's not like not having an org chart will keep people at the company - people are leaving in flocks anyway.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you really care about the company, you'd bring someone in from the outside to help run it instead of only caring about your own wealth and your family.
